How We Chose the Best Architects in Phoenix

Credentials

We took into account these architects’ experiences, education, and certifications to make sure that they’re qualified and experts in their field.

Scope of Services

We also looked into the range of services they offered, to give clients a better idea of what they’re capable of.

Design Specialty

Architects specialize in certain areas, so we also considered their strengths in design.

Customer Service

No client wants to work with an architect that’s unpleasant to deal with, so it was important for us to look into their attitude in general.

Pros

  • Has over 21 years of design and build experience
  • Specializes in commercial, public, and high-end residential architecture
  • Employed with over 70% architecturally-trained staff for construction and design

Cons

  • Relatively longer timeframe

Since 2001, 180 Degrees Design + Build has been providing clients with exceptional design and quality of service.

They’re an award-winning, architect-led design-build firm that specializes in commercial, public, and high-end residential architecture.

They’re quite hands-on when it comes to the design process, offering services that begin with pre-construction, to the design itself, to construction, up to architectural and fabrication.

What’s great about them is they’re made up of over 70% of architecturally-trained staff for both construction and design – this means that they’re able to really understand their clients’ goals while meeting the budget allocated.

And from what we’ve heard, they’re able to do this without compromising the quality of their final build and craftsmanship.

It’s because of this, too, that some of their clients say they present a relatively longer timeframe for their deliverables. Apparently, they also take quite a bit to respond to messages, too.

It seems that their previous clients really love their customer-centric approach. They’re proud to be guided by their four pillars – restraint, rigor, patience, and craftsmanship.

This basically entails that they thoroughly listen, innovate, create, and follow through on the execution of the design presented.  We hear that they’re collaborative and go above and beyond to deliver designs that truly incorporate the client’s vision, plus more.

For a firm that provides such top-notch designs, they’re known to be a down-to-earth bunch who are easy to get along with – which we think is a telltale sign that you’ll be in good hands with them

Pros

  • Award-winning and industry-recognized design firm
  • Specializes in Luxury Residential, Golf Clubhouse, and Hospitality design
  • Modern and sleek designs that incorporate natural elements

Cons

  • Quite selective with clients
  • Slow response rate

In just two decades, PHX Architecture has made a name for themselves in the valley, gaining recognition and accolades from several award-giving bodies and publications.

They’re an architectural firm based in Scottsdale that specializes in luxury residential, golf clubhouse, and hospitality design. These also include spas, ballrooms, fitness centers, country clubs, resorts, and more.

They pride themselves in embodying “Living Architecture,” a term they use in creating designs that seamlessly blend site, form, functionality, and the human scale.

While they’re known to incorporate not just a client’s personal style, we like that they take into account the regional landscape, local materials, and timeless style as well.

Erik Peterson, their president and founder, has won numerous industry awards and has been featured in top-tier architecture publications such as Architectural Digest, INTERIORS Magazine, Luxe Magazine, Wall Street Journal and California Homes, and more.

As far as experts in design go, you can be assured that he and his team are more than qualified and capable.

Their previous clients commend them for being able to beautifully-integrate natural elements in their luxury designs. The results are sleek, modern, and sophisticated; yet, inviting and warm.

Since they dedicate their time to every client, we hear that they can be quite selective in terms of the projects they see fit to work on. We also hear that they take longer to respond to inquiries, so that can be a bummer to first-time inquiries.

We still think, though, that it’s nice of them to be accommodating and transparent. All things considered, they’re a great choice if you also see them fit for your vision and end goals.

Pros

  • Specializes in tenant improvements and commercial builds
  • Assists in acquiring building permits
  • Relatively affordable and reasonable rates
  • Open 24/7

Cons

  • Can only accept a limited number of clients at a time
  • Minor delays in response time

WDS Architecture is a boutique commercial architecture office that specializes in tenant improvements and commercial builds around the valley.

The owner, Mike Marden, is a registered architect. He saw how most business owners get overwhelmed by the red tape and everything needed to start a build project, so he made it his mission to help ease the process for them.

Not only does he assist in the construction plans and building permits, he also makes himself available to them 24/7 – a kind gesture that clients love about him.

He does this with their Plan + Design + Build + Capture solution. From setting a project timeline and budget, to drawing up plans and assisting with tenant improvement build outs, up to interactive jobsite walks – he and his team are completely hands-on.

We also hear that he’s a delight to work with. It seems that his clients find him knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly helpful every step of the way.

We think that these are all important qualities to look for in choosing an architect, so we give him major props for those.

According to them, their process is unique in the industry because the same people who will draw your project are the same people who will build it. We appreciate the continuity this provides their clients.

The only downside is, they can only take on a limited number of clients at a time since they’re a small team. And even though they’re open 24/7, expect some minor delays in responses.

Pros

  • Specializes in restaurant and retail design
  • Full-service modern boutique architecture and design firm
  • Has won several design awards

Cons

  • Reports of some staff members being inconsistent in customer service quality
  • Does not immediately to respond to email inquiries

Style and strategy go hand-in-hand over at Ideation Design Group. Since 2004, they have been delivering full services as a modern and boutique architecture and design firm.

They specialize in restaurant and retail design, as well as tenant improvement. They firmly believe that the devil’s in the details when it comes to creating designs that are eye-catching and built for success.

That being said, they consider themselves as a one-stop shop. They have an architecture division, interior designs services, food service design, graphic design, as well as a procurement department.

What’s more is their IDG Purchasing allows for more customization capabilities by acquiring furniture, fixtures, and equipment for their clients.

As can be expected, their office is a reflection of their work. It’s an impressive space with an equally impressive facade – rustic, industrial, and welcoming; similar to what you’d usually anticipate for a food or retail space.

From what we hear, their team is a creative powerhouse. Not only are they talented and stylish strategists, they also have several awards under their belt to impress clients (even more).

While the lot of them have a reputation for being nice and friendly, we did hear that some of their members are not as consistent in providing the same quality of customer service with everyone.

It would also appear that while they’re very responsive through phone calls, email inquiries take longer for them to get back to.

Pros

  • Committed to sustainable and eco-conscious practices
  • Industrial and modern architecture designs
  • No standardized designs; each one is custom-made for the client

Cons

  • Can be selective in projects to take on
  • Takes a while to respond

Aline Architecture Concepts is an architecture studio that’s rapidly making waves and scaling new heights in industrial and modern architecture and design.

They believe in creating healthy spaces – meaning, architecture that is streamlined, devoid of unnecessary materials, clean and simplistic, and heavily-focused on the use of renewable materials.

What we really like about them is their commitment to sustainability. They take into consideration energy and water conservation, local sourcing, community engagement, and paper product consumption.

This allows them to create meaningful environments that not only inspire, but enhances the local community of Arizona as well.

To them, no project is too big or small, but it’s for these reasons above that they can be selective in their projects as well.

Their main commitment to clients is building structures that the next generation will want to preserve – something that we deeply respect and hold them in high regard for.

From what we’ve heard, their designs are mostly unique and genuine, as they don’t believe in following trends. It’s also very much custom-made for every client as they don’t have a standardized design.

Like most firms, their process begins with a free consultation to review project expectations. After a successful bid, they send bi-weekly status updates for full transparency and to keep clients in the loop.

We only wish they kept open lines of communication, as we heard that it sometimes takes them days to respond to queries. Putting that aside, we still think they’re a solid choice if you ever need any of their services.
