5 Best Places for STD Testing in Phoenix

5 Best Places for STD Testing in Phoenix

How We Chose the Best STD Testing Facilities in Phoenix

Qualifications

It was only necessary for us to consider the licenses, certifications, and credentials of the professionals performing the tests.

Scope of Services

We took a look at the variety of STD tests that are available in these facilities. This is important as some patients opt to get more than just one type of test.

Availability

We also considered the availability of these facilities in terms of hours of operation and their acceptance of walk-in appointments.

Bedside Manners

We understand that some patients consider STD testing to be a sensitive matter. So, we took into account the professionals’ demeanors, as well as their attentiveness to patients.

Efficiency in Delivering Results

We also looked into how efficient they are in delivering results both time-wise and privacy-wise.

Pros

  • A non-profit organization that’s been around since 1969
  • Offers free HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia testing
  • Allows walk-in appointments

Cons

  • Limited STD tests available
  • Closed on weekends

Terros Health is a non-profit organization that’s been around since 1969. Their goal is to provide healthcare to everyone by breaking the stigma around HIV/STI testing.

With them, HIV testing is free, along with syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia tests. If you need a test that’s not available at their facility, they will refer you somewhere else.

We really appreciate how they’re able to encourage sexual health with their mission. Having yourself checked should be normalized, and they provide a safe space for it.

They allow walk-ins, but it’s still recommended to make an appointment. This is so they can prepare beforehand and lessen the waiting time in between patients.

Take note that they only accept patients with appointments on Fridays.

From what we’ve heard, the staff members at their facility are kind, compassionate, and incredibly friendly. This makes patients instantly feel comfortable and attended to.

Even the medical professionals performing the tests appear to be professional and amiable. It seems that they’re great at explaining the testing process to make patients feel less nervous.

Apparently, they are a little short-staffed but because of how efficient and quick they are, there’s barely any waiting time. Results are pretty quick, too, which patients always appreciate.

Pros

  • Wide scope of STD tests available
  • Rates are upfront and relatively affordable
  • Strictly follows HIPAA guidelines with regards to releasing of results

Cons

  • Does not accept insurance
  • Few instances when delivery of results was delayed

Any Lab Test Now gives justice to their namesake by offering a wide scope of tests – and their available options for STD testing is no exception.

Even though they’re a private clinic, their service rates are relatively low. A downside is, they don’t accept insurance; but, patients can use their health savings accounts or flexible spending accounts for applicable lab tests.

Their rates are upfront, too, so you can be assured that there won’t be additional charges on the final bill. We always appreciate when companies do this, as we think it’s a great sign of transparency and honesty.

They try to make the testing process efficient, as well. In most cases, patients are in and out of the clinic in 15 minutes, and results are mostly delivered within 24-72 hours.

We say mostly, because we have heard of a few instances when results took longer than that to deliver.

We’d like to point out that they strictly follow HIPAA guidelines with the release of their results. They can send it over via email, or if someone else will be picking it up, they need a signed authorization.

Walk-ins are allowed in their facility, but again, appointments are highly-encouraged. Booking one is super easy, too, on their website – simply choose the clinic location, the test you’ll be availing, the time convenient for you, and that’s it.

Pros

  • Known for quick, efficient results
  • Has a wide scope of STD tests available
  • Allows walk-in appointments
  • Open daily with relatively long business hours

Cons

  • Services aren’t really that affordable
  • Can be difficult to get ahold of over the phone

If you need fast results, Affordable Rapid Testing is one of your best bets. They have a wide variety of tests available and their selection for STD tests is quite comprehensive.

Their STD testing is available in panels. These already include HIV, hepatitis C, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and more.

The best part is, results will be emailed within 30-60 minutes after. The results are also QR code-protected to ensure total privacy.

While they encourage booking your appointments, they also allow walk-ins. We’ve even heard of a few cases when they stayed open late just to accommodate more patients.

We do appreciate that and we think it speaks volumes of their customer service. So, we give them major props for it.

Speaking of customer service, we’ve also heard that their medical professionals are courteous, polite, and well, extremely professional. They’re knowledgeable in the process and are able to translate complex terms to patients.

Another thing we like is that they’re open daily and have relatively longer opening hours. We think this is helpful for those who have jam packed schedules, as it offers a lot of flexibility.

They claim to have affordable services, but upon checking, they’re not really that affordable. We’re willing to look past it, though, considering the speed and quality of service they provide.

We also wish that they would work on being more responsive. It seems that they’re relatively difficult to get ahold of over the phone.

Pros

  • Service fees are relatively more affordable
  • Office is clean and thoroughly sanitized
  • Relatively shorter waiting time for appointments made through their app
  • Open daily until midnight

Cons

  • Often has a long line of patients in the waiting room
  • Some instances of delays in delivering results

NEXTCare Urgent Care may have a lot of locations in Phoenix (and across the country, for that matter), but we’re partial to the one located at E Thomas Road.

This is because it’s well-managed and they have thousands of glowing reviews from previous patients to back up the quality of their services. The office is clean, bright, and always thoroughly sanitized.

We like, too, that even though they’re busy, they try their best to see patients as soon as possible. Pro tip: try to schedule an appointment via their app as this would afford you a shorter waiting time.

If you don’t make an appointment, expect a bit of wait. This is because they often have a long line of patients in their waiting room.

When it comes to STD testing, they have an in-house laboratory which entails lower rates and a shorter waiting period for results.

Although, they still encounter some delays every now and then, probably because of the amount of patients that come to them everyday.

Another good thing about them is that they’re open daily and they’re able to accommodate patients until midnight. In case you need to get tested urgently, we think they’d be a good choice of clinic.

Pros

  • No need to make an appointment for STD testing
  • Offers a comprehensive and relatively affordable Core 4 County Test
  • Accepts most commercial insurance providers

Cons

  • Waiting time for results is relatively longer
  • Closed on weekends

Conveniently located at Clarendon Avenue, FIT Health Care Clinic is a family practice medical clinic that offers a full-range of services.

With them, STD testing is a walk-in service. No need to make an appointment as they’re always prepared; but you can, if you’d rather book a schedule.

What we like about them is that they have partnered with the public health department to provide the “Core 4 County Test”.

This test includes STD evaluation and tests for chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and syphilis. It also includes medication for such treatments and a simple blood draw and urine sample.

It’s already quite comprehensive and encompassing. The best part is that it’s only $90 – a steal, considering how costly each test is in other similar clinics.

The downside is that results take 3-7 days to be returned. If you’re not really in a rush, we think this would be a good option.

If you’re uninsured or underinsured, they offer lower cost cash-pay labs. But they also accept many commercial insurance providers such as Medicaid/AHCCCS, Medicare and Marketplace Insurance plans.

Be sure to call ahead and check with them prior, though, as we’ve heard of miscommunication instances when patients thought their insurance was covered.
