The 5 Best Tattoo Shops in Phoenix That You’ll Actually Want to Trust With Your Skin

Licensing and Certifications: We made sure each shop and artist had the proper state and local licenses, along with updated health inspection certificates.

Cleanliness and Safety Standards: We chose shops that were clean, used new needles and gloves, and kept everything sterile.

Customer Service: We looked at how friendly and helpful the staff were, and whether they made clients feel comfortable.

Artist Skill and Style: We reviewed the artists’ work to see if their tattoos had clean lines, good shading, and matched the style people wanted.

Pricing: We checked if the shops were clear about their prices and minimum charges, with no hidden costs.

Getting inked isn’t just about looking like a rockstar. For some people, it’s like carrying a memory on their skin. For others, it’s simply because they feel like it, and that’s totally valid.

If you want a tattoo, go for it! The only rule? Don’t let a bad shop mess it up.

We’ve heard the horror stories—wonky lines, sloppy shading, and tattoos that make you wonder if the artist used their non-dominant hand. Since tattoos stick with you for life, choosing the right shop is everything.

Lucky for you, we’ve already scoped out Phoenix’s best tattoo shops. These are the places we’d trust with our skin if we’re getting inked too.

Inked Family Tattoo is more than just a tattoo shop—it’s built on the philosophy of family. Owner and lead artist Christian Navarro, also known as “Big C Tattoos,” brings his dedication as a single father into the heart of the studio, creating a warm and welcoming space where clients feel like part of the family.

The shop offers a wide range of tattoo styles, including color and black/gray realism, portraits, traditional, fine-line, gothic blackwork, and large-scale pieces. With a talented team of artists, each with their own specialties, clients can find someone perfectly suited for their vision.

One of the standout aspects of Inked Family Tattoo is its client-centered approach. Reviews often highlight the professionalism, creativity, and ability of the artists to bring ideas to life with precision, while the shop’s clean, comfortable environment makes for a stress-free experience.

Beyond tattooing, the shop’s commitment to community is evident through events like their annual Trunk or Treat anniversary celebration. These gatherings reinforce the studio’s family-first values and set them apart as a tattoo shop that truly cares about building connections.

Pros

  • Open seven days a week, long hours (10 AM – 10 PM), and walk-ins welcome
  • Clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment
  • Affordable starting prices at $100
  • Strong family- and community-oriented philosophy
  • Hosts fun events like the annual Trunk or Treat anniversary

Cons

  • High demand for artists

By far one of the best.

Christian is one bad ass artist he was my artist when I was in Arizona. We had the opportunity to get my husband a Christian Navarro piece while he was at a convention in Texas. By far one of the best. Down to earth and has always listened to us and what we want and was able to create exactly what we wanted and flawlessly turn that into a tattoo. Can’t wait for my next Christian Navarro piece.

It’s the only place I’m getting tattoos from now on!

First tattoo from Christian and definitely will not be my last! Extremely friendly staff especially, Faith. Christian did an amazing job turning what I wanted into something better than I hopped for. He worked with me on the design and made sure every part of the experience from concept to aftercare was exactly what I wanted and everyone asked me where I got it done. It’s the only place I’m getting tattoos from now on!

The first thing we noticed about Timeless Tattoo CO. is their lineup of artists. Each one has their own style, including American traditional, Japanese traditional, black and grey, and fine line.

Their website has full portfolios, so you can window-shop for the right artist before you even step into the studio.

We also appreciated how clear they are with pricing and booking. The shop minimum is $80, and deposits are required to lock in your spot. Plus, they’re open to walk-in consultations.

From what we’ve heard from customers, the service quality is really there. One first-timer said their artist took their sketchy idea and turned it into something way better than they imagined, while also making sure the tattoo healed perfectly.

There’s a downside, though. We’ve heard from someone that while some artists were super warm and welcoming, the rest of the shop felt a little “meh”. Not rude, just not very interested.

It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’d be nice if the friendliness is consistent across the board.

Pros

  • Diverse artist roster
  • Artist portfolios online
  • Transparent pricing
  • Flexible consultations
  • Strong service quality

Cons

  • Inconsistent atmosphere
  • Customer experience depends on the artist

Check them out, you won’t be disappointed

“Great work. The artist worked with me on my design ideas and came up with something far better than I had envisioned originally. Followed aftercare instructions and healed up quickly without any issues. It was a clean, professional and friendly environment, and he worked with me to achieve my desired result. It was my first tattoo and I couldn’t be happier. I will be returning. Very reasonable pricing as well.

Check them out, you won’t be disappointed.”

Clean, professional, and friendly

“I’ve been following Noah’s work for a while now, about 4 years now. Watched him grow into his own work and how he opened his own shop (through social media.) I finally took the dive to get some work done by him! Clean, professional, and friendly. I look forward to more work with him in the future.”

With 12 tattoo artists on board, the range of styles here at High Noon Tattoo is impressive. You don’t often see a shop that can cater to fine line design, a bold blackwork piece, a full-on color realism tattoo, and more all at once.

They’re open every single day, which makes booking way less stressful. No need to rearrange your entire week just to squeeze in an appointment. Their online system is straightforward too.

We really like how the artists themselves shape the shop’s reputation. Some people rave about Cody’s professionalism, especially since he’s known for saying yes when other shops have already said no.

Others swear by Mikey, whose work is known for standing the test of time. His customers said their tattoos still look vibrant more than a decade later, which says a lot about his skill.

And then there’s Scabbi Gabbi, who customers credit with turning their ideas into something unique and personal every single time.

That said, not everyone is thrilled. Someone felt communication fell short when they didn’t receive a follow-up message after reaching out.

Pros

  • Wide range of styles from 12 artists
  • Opens daily
  • Easy online booking
  • Friendly and skilled artists

Cons

  • Communication can slip at times

Everyone in the shop is professional and clean

“High Noon is a high-quality, locally owned and operated tattoo shop. Everyone in the shop is professional and clean, providing quality work in a modern shop with that old school vibe. With a variety of styles provided by the many artists there, I can guarantee they have someone to get you the ink you’re looking for. I’ve had 2 sleeves, my chest, and now working on my back, all done by Jeff Gulino.”

Mikey’s professionalism and calming presence made me feel at ease

“I visited High Noon for my first tattoo, and the experience was fantastic thanks to Mikey. I was pretty nervous, but Mikey’s professionalism and calming presence made me feel at ease right away. Since then, I’ve returned for additional tattoos, and each time, Mikey has delivered exceptional work. The shop maintains a clean and welcoming environment, and the staff is always friendly. On my second visit, I brought a friend who got a tattoo from Rocky. He was more than happy to do the tattoo, providing the same level of care and quality. I highly recommend High Noon for anyone looking to get amazing tattoos in a comfortable setting.”

The real stars at GreyWash Ink Tattoo are the artists. David, the owner, has a knack for listening to your idea and somehow turning it into something better than you imagined.

Then there’s Josh Napier, who’s basically the go-to guy if you want color that pops or realism so sharp it looks like a photo. Customers rave about how detailed and passionate they all are.

We also noticed how upfront they are with their pricing. They explain the shop minimum ($100), half-day sessions, full-day sessions, and even how deposits work.

Plus, they use digital design programs so you can actually see how your tattoo will sit on your skin before you commit. It’s kind of like a try-before-you-buy for tattoos, which is pretty cool.

That said, there are a couple of things worth mentioning. While the $100 shop minimum is fair, it might feel a bit pricey if you want a teeny-tiny tattoo.

Their cancellation and deposit rules are strict too, so if you’re the type who reschedules everything, you’ll need to be careful.

Pros

  • Talented artists
  • Passionate and professional
  • Transparent pricing
  • Uses digital design programs
  • Welcoming vibe
  • Opens daily

Cons

  • Strict deposit and cancellation policies

He’s passionate about his work, and it shows

“Josh Napier was by far the best guy to do my work. I spent time finding someone, and I’m so glad I found him. Everything was clean, professional. The time he spent making the work perfect. From the time I contacted him to the end of my session was smooth. He’s passionate about his work, and it shows. You want the best colorist and realism, you need to contact Josh Napier.”

The shop had great vibes and a very good atmosphere

“I couldn’t be any happier with my tattoo I got today. David Wands did an absolutely amazing job. He was very professional, and the shop had great vibes and a very good atmosphere. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who is looking to get some amazing work done.”

27 Tattoo Studio is so serious about hygiene. They’re an all-disposable studio, so every single tube and piece of equipment is pre-sterilized, used once, and then tossed out.

Combine that with the fact that all the artists are trained in Bloodborne Pathogen safety, and you can relax knowing everything’s done right. They also use vegan inks, which is a nice bonus if that’s something you care about.

The vibe of the studio is also pretty cool. Instead of being dark and intimidating like some tattoo shops, it’s bright, colorful, and filled with art and quirky collectibles.

When it comes to the actual tattoos, one name that we heard over and over was Anthony. His customers rave about his super clean linework and detailed dot work.

People also said he has “feather hands,” which means he tattoos so lightly that the pain isn’t as bad as you’d expect. He’s also patient and will talk to you through your ideas without making you feel rushed.

However, their deposit policy is strict. There are no refunds, and only one reschedule is allowed. It’s fair, but it’s something to keep in mind if your schedule’s unpredictable.

Pros

  • Top-notch hygiene
  • Bloodborne Pathogen training
  • Vegan inks available
  • Welcoming vibe
  • Skilled artists
  • Gentle tattooing style

Cons

  • Strict deposit policy

The cleanest and most professional shop I have gone to

“27 Tattoo is the cleanest and most professional shop I have gone to. My tattoo appointments always start on time, and I feel very comfortable at each session! Once again, I can’t emphasize enough the cleanliness of this shop, which just adds to the overall excellent experience! Lastly, I can’t forget to add the quality of work done by Anthon,y specifically, is amazing. His attention to detail is out of this world. I would trust him with ANY tattoo I brought to him. Can’t say enough positive things about the shop! Highly recommend!”

He’s an amazing artist and makes spectacular designs

“An amazing experience, Julian is always so kinda and makes sure you’re comfortable during your tattoo. He’s very informative on how to take care of the tattoo afterwards. He’s an amazing artist and makes spectacular designs. I 1000% recommend him if you’re looking for unique, detailed and beautifully stylized art pieces to add to your body.”
