5 Best Companies for Truck Rentals in Phoenix
How we picked
Fleet
We picked companies that offer great features and variety in terms of truck size and capacity. These should also be regularly maintained and inspected to reduce the risk of breaking down while in use.
Rental Terms
To suit different needs, we assessed the extent of the rental duration, as well as the booking flexibility with logistics, mileage, location, etc.
Cost
In case of damages, accidents, or theft, we checked for any insurance coverage provided by the company. They should also provide a detailed breakdown of the fees, considering the layers that come with pricing.
Additional Services
It’s great to have value-adding services when you need them. This comes in the form of packing supplies, ramps, hitches, loading equipment, and even moving services.

Pros
- Convenient one-way rentals for long-distance hauling
- Friendly and accommodating staff
- Has an established nationwide presence
- Competitive rates
- Straightforward rental process
Cons
- Closes early in the day
- Limited fleet in terms of size
- Charges for no-shows
Founded in 1998, Budget Truck Rental is a division of the Avis Budget Group and has become the second largest truck rental company in the US. True to its name, they’re known for their competitive prices and hassle-free rental process.
One thing we like is the convenient one-way rentals that eliminate the need to return a truck to its original location. They have an established network of almost 3,000 branches across the country, so customers have peace of mind logistics-wise.
There are 13 locations in Metro Phoenix alone, but their Black Canyon branch seems to be the crowd favorite as far as we’ve checked.
This ease also applies to the duration of the rental period, as they have a vast number of trucks in their system. They’re more flexible when it comes to leasing, which could be as quick as a few short hours or weeks on end.
Our only issue is that this particular location closes as early as 3 PM on weekdays, and 12 NN on weekends. Make sure to call ahead of time, especially if you’re coming from another state since they charge a no-show fee.
Still, we’ve heard glowing recommendations from customers about their staff. Suffice it to say that they go the extra mile in providing their assistance, with special mentions going out to the manager Roy and his assistant Sharon.
In one instance, a customer was running late to pick up a truck but was still given a 5-star treatment. Sharon even helped with their financial concerns, making every effort to ensure a seamless transaction.

Pros
- Track record of 50 years
- Solid and reliable insurance coverage
- Newer, well-maintained trucks compared to others
- Doesn’t charge for cancellations
- Comprehensive services like packing materials and towing equipment
Cons
- Lacks in the customer service department
- Higher rates
Penske Truck Rental is another prominent company that has been around for more than 50 years. They pride themselves as a leader in the industry when it comes to a fleet of diverse and pristine trucks.
We love that they regularly inspect and maintain their models, so safety won’t be an issue down the road. Moreover, they have impressive insurance coverage and protection plans for the benefit of both parties, which increases our confidence.
As such, they’re trusted by other businesses and corporate organizations, including the general consumer. Trucks can be used for a range of hauling and transportation purposes, with a great deal on unlimited mileage for one-way rentals.
Speaking of, they’re pretty lenient regarding the terms of the lease like rescheduling or canceling reservations, all without added charges. They’re also transparent with the fee structure with no hidden charges on mileage or turn-ins, so our minds are at ease.
The only thing we thought was lacking was customer service, after hearing from their customers. Some found them unhelpful when it came to arranging pick-ups/drop-offs and availing of other services like maintenance.
Their rates are also higher compared to other truck leasing companies. We think it’s understandable considering the great condition the trucks are in and all the perks mentioned above.
All things considered, they’re the best choice if safety and security are your number one priority.

Pros
- Offers tailored options ideal for commercial use
- Extensive selection of trucks, vehicles, and other transport services
- Over 60 years in business
- Fast and seamless booking process
- Informative and efficient customer services
Cons

Enterprise Truck Rental is a subsidiary of Enterprise Holdings, a popular car rental company and the largest of its kind. Since its establishment in 1957, they have expanded to truck rentals with almost the same level of commercial success.
Like its flagship counterpart, the truck leasing company also has a wide reach that continues to grow across different regions in the country. This allows convenient one-way rentals throughout their network.
What sets them apart from the others is that they have a wider range of fleet aside from box trucks. Among these are refrigerated trucks, flatbeds, and service body trucks, which are extensive.
This makes them the ideal choice for business and commercial use. It’s also worth mentioning that they offer customized options for account management and billing on an ongoing basis.
On another note, there were some complaints about malfunctioning controls and mechanical issues here and there. Fortunately, their team was apparently ready for a replacement unit in these cases.
As for their customer service, we heard the staff over at the North Phoenix branch are superb with on-site and remote assistance. There’s always someone ready to help the moment you walk through their door, which we highly appreciate.
Overall, they’re one of the best to come around with excellent customer service and comprehensive services. This comes at a price, though, as their rates tend to tip higher on the scale.

Pros
- Pioneered the truck rental industry
- Comprehensive scope of services, including self-storage
- Recommended for self-moving
- Offers multiple truck sizes
- Competitive prices
Cons
- Few reports of delays on-site
- Some units are old and not in the best condition
U-Haul is undoubtedly the most popular choice among the companies on this list, both as a major player in the truck rental industry and as a homegrown company. Being based right here in Phoenix, we might feel a little biased.
The company has become synonymous with truck rentals, and they are also known for their moving and self-storage services. Storing and moving have become more convenient, as they offer everything in one place.
Notably, they pioneered the concept of renting trucks for moving purposes.
If you’re still not convinced, U-Haul dominates the local market with the widest reach among its peers. Accessibility is not a problem, as they have at least 50 locations in the valley and 20,000 nationwide.
Given the scale of its market, the company offers some of the most affordable rates we’ve seen, which further contributes to its popularity among general consumers.
Additionally, they provide a wide variety of fleet options, including cargo vans, tow dollies, and trailers.
However, some aspects of the company can be hit-or-miss, particularly with customer service and truck maintenance.
While we’ve generally heard good remarks, a few customers have reported long wait times, especially during peak seasons. Their location at Papago Park comes highly recommended because of their friendly and helpful staff.
Word of warning, due to their extensive fleet, it’s fairly common to come across trucks with pre-existing damages.

Pros
- Fleet offers a breadth of transportation options
- 90 years of industry experience
- Customized programs for commercial use
- Offers a range of insurance coverage and financing
- Has a global network
Cons
- Closed on weekends
- Inconsistent with fleet upkeep and maintenance
- Some reports of trucks breaking down in transit
Ryder Truck Rental is considered the longest-running commercial truck leasing company, with history as far back as 1933. They’re also known for their wide fleet selection that runs the gamut from box trucks to big rigs.
Their client pool consists mainly of other commercial enterprises, with a special focus on logistics, distribution, and retail, among others. Moreover, they offer flexible and scalable programs, which is great.
Clients have the freedom to customize their program according to their needs, regardless of the duration, scale, and season. The company also has a global reach, making it all the more a viable choice for businesses.
Moving trucks for personal use is also possible, but we think there are other better options in this list. They’re also closed on weekends, which might be something to consider.
Another area of improvement would be the maintenance and inspection of units. We wished they were more thorough before leasing trucks to customers, as some have complained about the poor condition they came in.
Fortunately, they have on-demand maintenance around the clock in case anything comes up. They also have a variety of insurance options to choose from, protecting both the leased vehicle and your business.
With an established worldwide network, tailored programs, and trucks that can serve any purpose, they’re our best bet when for corporate or business use.
