The 5 Best Shops for Auto Parts in Phoenix
How we picked
Inventory
We looked for shops that offer high-quality parts and equipment through the brands or types they carry. To save time procuring items, we also considered those with a wide variety and stocks available at a moment’s notice.
Staff Expertise
Of course, the staff should have the knowledge and experience to guide customers in making an informed decision. Lines of communication must be consistent throughout, including after sales.
Accessibility
For convenience and practical purposes, the shops should have multiple branches throughout the valley. Longer operating hours are preferred in case of emergencies.
Value for Money
Through customer interviews, we assessed whether the shops have a solid warranty and a fair return policy in case of any issues down the line. Prices should be comparable to the products and services rendered.

Pros
- Rich inventory of automotive products
- Competitive rates
- Industry leader nationwide with 5000+ stores
- Highly accessible anywhere in the valley
- Convenient online marketplace
Cons
- Inconsistent customer service
- Has a record of closing ahead of time
For any car enthusiast, the name might ring a bell because AutoZone Auto Parts is by far the industry’s largest enterprise in the country. With over 5,000 shops nationwide, they boast an impressive range of auto parts, to say the least.
In Phoenix alone, the automotive behemoth has 30 locations. Chances are you’ll find one within a mile away, so accessibility isn’t going to be a problem.
Moreover, the earliest closing time is 9 PM, while other shops are open around the clock for seven days. Such is the case with their location over at McDowell Road, one of the more popular ones.
When visiting any of their shops, expect a smooth ride. Batteries, spark plugs, car accessories, and maintenance products – they have everything you need at a reasonable price.
Conversely, we wished we could say the same about customer service. The staff was a mixed bag, with some being helpful and attentive to customers while others were unresponsive and less inclined to assist.
There were also some complaints about closing up shop hours ahead of the expected time, which is frustrating. If the business is going to put up its store hours online, we’d expect them to honor it.
Still, they have some of the best catalogs in-store and online, plus a reliable warranty on batteries and other hard parts. They also have special discounts and promos on the regular to make your money go the extra mile.

Pros
- Customer service has a more personal touch
- Organized and hassle-free transactions
- More affordable compared to other retailers
- Responsive over the phone
Cons
- Has only one location
- Catalog isn’t as diverse as the others
- Doesn’t carry body components and other accessories
Penny Pincher Auto Parts has its sole retail presence a few miles west of Downtown Phoenix. The singular branch was established back in 1978 and still stands strong in an industry where branch networks are the norm.
We’d argue that it could give its big brand counterparts a run for their money, owing to the quality and price of their products. They have a pretty decent collection when it comes to mechanical and chassis components.
Ordering parts is also made more convenient. These can be browsed through their website according to year, make, model, and other subcategories possible.
Bear in mind that they don’t deliver to your doorstep, but most of their customers don’t seem to mind the trip. With superb auto parts at almost half the price of other franchise shops, we’d be willing to make the drive, too.
On the other hand, they lack an inventory of body components, car accessories, and maintenance items. If you’re looking to get all these things in one place, you might have to make another stop.
It could also get pretty busy with long lines, but the staff still manages to stay organized from what we’ve heard.
Ultimately, the shop lives up to its name and not at the cost of quality. They’re a great choice if you prefer to support local, too!

Pros
- Customer service has a more personal touch
- Organized and hassle-free transactions
- More affordable compared to other retailers
- Responsive over the phone
Cons
- Has only one location
- Catalog isn’t as diverse as the others
- Doesn’t carry body components and other accessories
O’Reilly Auto Parts is arguably the most popular auto parts shop around with 148 in the whole of Arizona. We could say they’re the McDonald’s of the automotive trade in the state, with a store on just about every corner.
Having a pervasive reach makes them widely available to customers. On the off chance that the part you’re looking for isn’t at the shop, they can easily call the closest branch to bring them over.
Their location down at West Bell Road is the place to go from what we’ve heard, considering it’s a hub location. Customers have even reported finding the most obscure parts here, which is great.
Otherwise, you can also order from their website for next-day delivery or curbside pick-up. Some opt to give them a call to check for availability, so, convenience is on your side with them.
On another note, their customer service is a hit-or-miss. While they’re helpful in ringing up or giving advice, some of the reps are more likely to assert what they know and come off as combative.
The store could also get busy, with customers here and there getting lost in the shuffle. Lines are virtually non-existent, and their free services aren’t always reliable.
They’re not as organized as we’d like, so we hope to see some improvement in the way things are run things.
Except for the relatively higher rates, we have no complaints in terms of their products. We only wished they could develop a more customer-centric approach.

Pros
- 75+ years of trade experience
- Offers both OEM and aftermarket parts
- Has specialty parts for ATVs, motorcycles, etc.
- Regularly offers discounts and promos through their app
Cons
- Some parts are out of stock or not readily available
- Not equipped to perform some tests
- Has a record of not honoring the warranty
- Subpar customer service
Advance Auto Parts has been around for more than 75 years and has grown to multiple locations across the country. They’ve also expanded to Mexico, Canada, and Puerto Rico, which is impressive.
We like that they offer a wide range of OEM parts, in addition to aftermarket products. These include parts for ATVs, vans, motorcycles, and even lawn motors.
Brake pads, headlights, windshield wipers, radiators – you name it, they’ve got it. They also carry a selection of high-quality brands like Die Hard batteries and Fram.
Compared to other retailers, they have a decent network within the valley with a few established shops. Their location along West Indian Road comes highly recommended among all 11 stores according to our survey.
They also have an intuitive app for online orders, membership perks, and rewards.
However, parts aren’t always available on-hand, so expect to wait a while before they can ring you up. If you’re in the market for obscure parts, best to look elsewhere.
In-store services aren’t always reliable either, according to some customers. There were complaints about the staff not being properly equipped or less than inclined to run tests, which is disappointing.
Fortunately, this isn’t always true for all the members of their staff who provide superb customer assistance. We’re hoping this rubs off on the others at some point.

Pros
- Almost 100 years in business
- Clean and organized shop
- Competitive prices and solid warranty on parts
- Has a service center for in-store maintenance and tests
- Helpful and personable staff
Cons
- Shorter operating hours
- Sometimes short on staff
- Closes early
NAPA Auto Parts is considered the longest-running automotive retail enterprise, establishing its first shop back in 1925. Because of this, they have developed an all-encompassing catalog in the span of a century.
Aside from automotive parts, they offer maintenance equipment, tools, accessories, and chassis components among others. From what we’ve seen, you’ll find yourself in and out of their shop in no time.
Around 15 branches are sprawled across the valley and some remote areas in the state. We heard their location over at Thomas Road is the place to visit, plus it’s conveniently stationed near Central Phoenix.
Upon visiting, we were impressed with the all-too-familiar exterior and organized aisles of products and parts. They also have an auto care center for emissions, quick lube, and battery installation and testing.
The staff is also generally approachable and well-informed about inventory, though some say they’re understaffed. Still, points from us for the customer-focused approach, which is rare in the automotive industry.
If they don’t have the part you’re looking for, we heard that customers would be redirected to their other locations. If it were up to us, we’d at least call the nearest location and transport it ourselves.
Unlike other shops, they close a little earlier than usual and have shorter operating hours.
Still, they have some of the best prices and deals we’ve come across including monthly promos, rewards, rebates, and a solid warranty on parts.
