The Footprint Center is a four-level, multi-purpose entertainment arena with an 18,000 seating capacity in Phoenix, Arizona. It is best known as the Phoenix Suns’ home court – Arizona’s official basketball team.
The Footprint Center boasts a modern design with its iconic curving copper-colored roof, reminiscent of a giant outstretched wing. It also has a steeply-angled bowl seating with an orange and purple color scheme, the Phoenix Suns’ signature hues.

Why is it called the Footprint Center?
Footprint Center is named after a Gilbert-based material science company, Footprint, which aims to eliminate single-use plastics and manufactures plant-based packaging products to help reduce waste and conserve resources.
Today, it is committed to sustainability through its Green Footprint Initiative. For instance, they have eliminated plastic wherever possible in their concession stands and encourage fans to use public transportation or bicycles to get to the arena.
What is the history of the Footprint Center?
The Footprint Center first opened under the name America West Arena in 1992. The arena continuously hosted NBA All-Star and NHL games and other concert events, solidifying its position as a central entertainment hub in Phoenix.
The Footprint Center hosted the NBA Finals in 1993 and the NBA All-Star Game in 1995 and 2009. It has also hosted boxing matches, rodeo competitions, UFC events, WWE events, and music concerts like Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, and Elton John.
The arena underwent name changes through the years, reflecting sponsorships – US Airways Center, Talking Stick Resort Arena, PHX Arena and its current name, Footprint Center.
How to Get to the Footprint Center

The Footprint Center is located close to the main highways in the Phoenix area. It also has a rideshare area for pickup and delivery at the Footprint Center Plaza, at the corner of First Street and Jefferson Street.
Here are the different ways to get to the Footprint Center safely and soundly.
1. By Light Rail
Phoenix’s Valley Metro Light Rail is the best option for getting to the arena to avoid traffic and parking hassles. Just go to the 3rd Street or Washington Station, and it’s already less than a 10-minute walk from the station to the Footprint Center’s gates.
The good news is Valley Metro Rail offers the Rail Ride Event program in collaboration with the Footprint Center. Tickets to any Phoenix Suns game, Phoenix Mercury game, or concerts and events at Footprint Center doubles as light rail passes on the event day.
2. By Car
The Interstate 10 West highway is ideal if you’re coming from the west side of Phoenix. Just take the Washington/Jefferson Exit 169B, turn left onto Washington Street, and then left again onto 3rd Street, and the Footprint Center will be on your right.
If you’re from the north, we recommend taking Interstate 17 South and exiting the Jefferson Street Exit 195A. If you’re already in downtown Phoenix, simply go to the intersection of 3rd Street and Jefferson Street, and you will see the Footprint Center.
3. By Ridesharing
Uber and Lyft are reliable ridesharing services for getting to the Footprint Center. They are convenient and affordable, and there are already designated pick-up and drop-off zones around Footprint Center.

The Phoenix public bus system has a route on Jefferson Street, which is also a budget-friendly and eco-conscious option. Guests can opt for Valley Metro Bus services to reach the Footprint Center, served by Route 1, Route 3, Route 7, and Route 84.
5. By E-Scooter
Riding an e-scooter is a fun and eco-friendly way to navigate Phoenix and get to the Footprint Center. Downtown Phoenix offers a scooter program, enabling guests to rent e-scooters from Bird, Lime and Lyft and ride e-scooters to the arena.

1. Parking Slots
The Footprint Center has more than 700 parking spaces, including parking for disabled guests. There are also various parking options outside the arena, which you can pre-book before the event.
It usually costs around $25 at the Footprint Center garage and $10 to $35 at nearby parking facilities. Here are the other parking options near the Footprint Center:

2. Ticket Purchasing
Buying tickets at their Box Office is the surest way to get tickets to Footprint Center events. This option is helpful, especially for those who prefer personal assistance or need to purchase tickets using cash or a debit card.
Retail outlets like Fry’s Food and Drug and select Walmart locations in Phoenix also sell tickets for some Footprint Center events. Otherwise, you can purchase tickets online at the Footprint Center or Ticketmaster websites.
3. Bag Policy
Footprint Center allows backpacks if they meet the NBA bag-size requirements of 14” x 14” x 6”. Anything smaller than this size requirement is allowed in but must undergo an X-ray scan upon entry.
Fortunately, there are reliable luggage storage services near Footprint Center, such as Bounce’s Midtown and East McDowell Road branches. You can stop along the way and leave your large items there for a while.
4. Alcohol Beverage Policy
Alcohol, nonalcoholic beer, wine or illegal drugs are not allowed into Footprint Center. However, those aged 21 and above can purchase alcoholic beverages inside the arena, but no more than two alcoholic beverages will be sold to any one person at a time.
5. Banners and Signs
Banners and signs are allowed in the Footprint Center if they’re smaller than 11” x 17” and made of a soft, foldable and flame-retardant material. They cannot be commercial or political and must pertain to the event.
5. Camera Policy
Generally, professional camera equipment may only be bought for events with a media credential. However, personal cameras are allowed without flash photography or video recording.
6. Cashless Environment
The Footprint Center is a cashless venue, so make sure to have your credit or debit cards in hand as you go to the arena. You can also download the Official Suns App to buy food and beverages for contactless pickup.
For those who might forget their cards, don’t worry because there are reverse ATMs located near the Ticket Office or Section 218, where you can convert cash into a prepaid Mastercard.
7. Food Policy
No outside food, beverages, coolers, bottles or cans may be brought into Footprint Center, except for one sealed plastic water bottle per guest for Suns, Mercury, and Rattlers games. However, baby bottles, formula and items for children are allowed.
9. Prohibited Items
Aside from the restricted items discussed above, here’s a list of other prohibited items at the Footprint Center.

1. Arrive at least two hours before the event.
Generally, it’s best to arrive at least two hours before the event for ample time to park, choose your seat, grab food and drinks, and even use the restroom.
