5 Best Golf Instructors in Phoenix That’ll Work With Your Game

Teaching Experience: We ensured that the instructors we selected had a strong track record of coaching students at various levels. Those with recognised qualifications or competitive coaching experience were given priority.

Lesson Structure: We favoured instructors who offer well-structured sessions tailored to individual goals. This includes swing analysis, on-course lessons, and customised training plans for beginners, intermediates, and advanced players.

Facilities & Equipment: Instructors with access to quality facilities (such as driving ranges, simulators, or video analysis tools) ranked higher. The use of up-to-date tech was a plus for tracking progress and refining technique.

Student Feedback: We reviewed student testimonials that highlighted patience, clear communication, and measurable improvement. Instructors praised for building confidence and creating a comfortable learning environment stood out.

I’ve always been the kind of person who hears someone talk passionately about a sport and immediately thinks of wanting to try it.

Over the years, I’ve hopped around different activities and signed up for random lessons just to see what I actually enjoy. One of those experiments was golf.

When I was checking out some lessons, I was surprised by how hard it was to find a coach here in Phoenix.

There were so many experts that I ended up scrolling through profiles and grilling instructors with questions to the point where I’m sure a few of them were done with me.

The upside is that all that effort paid off. I eventually found a pro who really worked for me.

And since it felt like a waste to keep all that research to myself, I pulled together a solid lineup of the best golf instructors in Phoenix to help you find your match a lot faster than I did.

How much do golf instructors in Phoenix cost?

In Phoenix, golf instructors typically charge between $80 and $150 per hour. Entry-level or shorter sessions can start around $50–$75, while experienced or elite coaches often charge $150–$300.
Group lessons and multi-lesson packages usually bring the per-lesson cost down.

EJS Golf – Coach Erik is led by elite coach Erik Schjolberg, whose teaching philosophy was shaped by years of frustration with traditional lessons that temporarily make golfers worse before they improve. His approach is built around one clear objective: measurable, lasting improvement from the very first session.

Most coaching sessions are conducted one-on-one and are intentionally focused. Rather than overwhelming players with multiple swing changes, Coach Erik identifies a small number of high-impact adjustments that golfers often overlook but that produce immediate gains. This precision-driven method allows improvements to feel natural and, more importantly, to hold up under pressure.

Instead of forcing players into a textbook swing, Coach Erik analyzes how each golfer moves naturally and works within those patterns. This individualized approach significantly accelerates progress and reduces regression, making it especially effective for committed players striving for higher performance levels.

Instruction is supported by industry-leading technology, including 3D markerless body tracking, TrackMan launch monitor data, Ground Reaction Force analysis, and advanced video diagnostics. These tools remove guesswork, clearly showing what is happening in the swing and why specific changes lead to better ball flight, consistency, and scoring.

EJS Golf – Coach Erik also offers structured long-term training plans for beginners, intermediate players, and advanced competitors. These programs go beyond mechanics, placing strong emphasis on shot selection, course strategy, and performance habits that translate directly to lower scores.

Coach Erik is particularly well known for his results with serious amateurs, with a proven track record of taking 12–15 handicap golfers to scratch within one year. This outcome-driven coaching has made him a sought-after choice for players who expect elite-level guidance rather than general instruction.

Sessions are priced at $300 per hour, reflecting the premium nature of the coaching, technology, and results delivered. This is a high-performance offering designed for golfers who are serious about improvement and are willing to invest in coaching that consistently delivers.

Training takes place at McCormick Ranch Golf Club, where golfers have ample space to apply lessons in real playing conditions. Observing sessions on-site, it’s common to hear players discussing personalized drills and structured practice routines—evidence of a system that keeps golfers engaged, motivated, and improving long after the lesson ends.

With limited availability and consistently high demand, EJS Golf – Coach Erik stands apart as a destination for golfers seeking elite coaching, advanced technology, and guaranteed improvement—not just another swing lesson.

Erik was very accommodating in working out a custom program

“Erik is an exceptional coach. As a beginner, high handicap golfer I left the lessons feeling that I knew how to achieve good contact on every swing (irons, wedges, chips and drives) and how to diagnose what went wrong on mis-hits. The biggest difference I have found with Erik compared to other coaching experiences is Erik’s dedication to helping me build a truly good swing – he dives deep and doesn’t just offer quick fixes that don’t really address the problem. Erik was invested in my improvement, and even after the lessons got follow up and drills to continue working on. Erik was very accommodating in working out a custom program that was efficient, effective and enjoyable.

He’s really good at using the data to help you understand the movements

I have been playing for about 20 years and am single digit handicap and I have improved greatly in just 6 months in seeing Erik. He has a really cool set up with an air conditioned hitting bay with a roll-up door at the back of the driving range. He also has all of the technology including Trackman. He’s really good at using the data to help you understand the movements you need to make to be a better golfer. He’s also a cool guy. Highly recommend!

With more than 26 years of teaching experience and over eight years at Lookout Mountain, Jeff Allen is comfortable coaching beginners, families, and seasoned players alike.

Instead of keeping students on a range mat, he runs lessons on a grass tee and out on the course, where swings are tested on real shots in real situations.

In practice, that shapes how he structures sessions. Jeff offers hourly full-swing, short-game, and on-course lessons, plus a series that builds in extra playing time.

He breaks down why the ball flies or curves a certain way, helping students link technique with feel rather than memorising stock positions.

I especially like how patient he is with first-timers; former students even mention his patience and how first-lesson nerves gradually give way to confidence.

Beginners don’t need to arrive fully equipped either, since Callaway clubs are available at no extra cost.

But his calendar fills quickly, which means advance booking is usually needed.

Pros

  • Has more than 26 years of experience
  • Teaches all levels
  • Lessons held on grass tees and course
  • Offers swing, short-game, and on-course sessions
  • Focus on ball flight and feel
  • Beginner-friendly
  • Callaway clubs provided

Cons

  • Limited availability

Helped make small tweaks that added distance to my swing with less effort!

I have fallen in love with golf the last few years with no formal lessons. It was time to get some lessons and within the first session Jeff was able to help make small tweaks that added distance to my swing with less effort! This is only my first lesson and by the end of the lesson I was excited to play a round. We still have 3 more lessons and I couldn’t be more excited for the next lesson. He creates a very fun and easy environment. Highly recommend if love to play golf and are looking to improve your game with some very impactful but most importantly, fun golf lessons.

He creates a fun and easy environment and truly will meet you where you’re at.

Been playing golf the last few years with no formal lessons, and within the first 10 minutes Jeff was able to help make small adjustments that had a huge impact on my swing! This is only our first lesson and by the end of the lesson I was excited to get on the course and get some tee times set up. We still have 3 more lessons and I couldn’t be more excited to learn more from Jeff. He creates a very fun and easy environment and truly will meet you where you’re at in your golf game. Highly recommend if you’re like me and love to play golf but hit your natural peak, and you’re ready to step your game up with some very impactful but most importantly, fun golf lessons. Jeff is your guy!!

Golf with Gil knows that pounding balls on the range means little if you don’t know why they slice, hook, or barely leave the ground.

Lessons move between the practice areas and the course, so he can watch how students handle awkward lies and club choices when there’s a bit of pressure involved.

Each session runs for at least two hours, giving enough time to work on the swing and talk through course strategy at a pace that doesn’t feel rushed.

Everything is taught one-on-one, even for couples. Gil spends time on pre-shot routines and purposeful practice and shows you how to review a round afterward. I also really like that you leave with specific things to practise, not just a vague “swing thought.”

Not everyone clicks with his delivery straight away; he can be quite direct, though long-time students say that honesty is exactly what pushed them to improve.

Pros

  • Two-hour sessions on range and course
  • One-on-one coaching
  • Covers swing, strategy, and post-round reviews
  • Students leave with clear practice goals

Cons

  • Can be blunt

He is great at teaching technical skills.

My fiancée and I took our first lesson from Gil and he is an amazing instructor! He is full of knowledge about the game and though he is great at teaching technical skills, his focus on the mental aspects of golf is something we had never experienced before in a lesson. In just a two hour lesson he had us both driving the ball like we never had before, and left us with great drills to take to the range and practice. We will definitely be going back for more, we can’t wait for our next lesson with Gil!

His coaching builds confidence and strategic thinking on the course.

Lessons with Gil have been truly transformative for my golf game. Unlike most coaches, Gil takes a unique approach that goes beyond just swing mechanics. If you’re serious about improving, he teaches you how to practice like a pro—with engaging drills, fun games, and a strong focus on the mental side of the game. Since training with Gil, I’ve seen consistent improvement in my performance every week. His coaching not only helps refine technique but also builds confidence and strategic thinking on the course. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player looking to level up, I can’t recommend Gil highly enough—10/10 for anyone serious about learning the game!

AZ Golf Lessons and Phoenix Arizona Golf School is run by Frank Macioce, a longtime Phoenix instructor who’d rather help you see changes now than bury you in swing theory.

With over 15 years of teaching behind him, he’s worked with everyone from kids taking their first swings to seniors fine-tuning their game, pacing each session to how the student learns.

What makes this instructor especially appealing to me is how accessible he keeps things. His rates sit well below many other coaches in the city, so booking regular lessons doesn’t feel impossible for families or newer players who want steady practice.

He teaches one-on-one and small groups, including women’s and junior sessions, and leans on clear visuals and simple explanations so adjustments sink in fast.

A lot of students even spoke of straighter shots and better consistency within the first lesson or two.

The catch is his schedule. With demand across Phoenix and nearby areas, getting your ideal time slot usually means planning ahead.

Pros

  • More than 15 years of experience
  • Affordable
  • Beginner-friendly
  • One-on-one and group lessons available
  • Clear teaching style
  • Quick improvement noted

Cons

  • Limited availability

I was impressed that Coach Frank was out there with me even in the pouring rain.

I’ve been training with Coach Frank for a while, and my golf game has improved significantly, going from a score of 125 to 84. His coaching has really helped refine my swing and mindset on the course. Looking forward to breaking 80 soon. We had a great practice session today, and I was impressed that Coach Frank was out there with me even in the pouring rain. Not many instructors would do that😎 Definitely recommend him!

Frank had me hitting straighter and more consistently than I ever have.

Read the reviews on Frank and sounded too good to be true.  When a friend at work recommended Frank, decided I have to try.  Three very simple tips later and only 15 minutes into my first lesson, Frank had me hitting straighter and more consistently than I ever have.  Had lesson #3 today and cannot believe the results.  My only regret is not reaching out to him sooner and instead spending the last year and a half on YouTube videos, endless hours at the range on my own and multiple rounds just getting more frustrated.  In addition to being an amazing teacher and coach, Frank is just a great guy and fun to spend time with.  Highly recommend!

Business hours

  • Daily – 7 AM to 10 PM

Website

Digest Best Young Teacher in America for 2023–2024, and his coaching structure reflects that reputation. First lessons run for one or two hours and start with a full-swing evaluation plus a straightforward conversation about your goals.

From there, instead of slotting you into a preset program, he builds a specific improvement plan for each player.

That individual focus carries into ongoing training. He offers a mix of one-off lessons, bundled packages, and longer coaching blocks, with remote support available through detailed video reviews if you can’t always meet in person.

Feedback comes as voice-over breakdowns or short demo clips, so students know exactly what to work on between sessions. A big part of his roster is junior and competitive players, and he helps them with tournament prep and post-round reviews.

When I reached out, I appreciated how clearly the team explained the process—I was honestly ready to book. Then I realised their rates were higher than many local options, and with golf already being an expensive hobby, I decided to look for a different coach.

Pros

  • Run by award-winning coach Jeremy Anderson
  • Personalized plans from day one
  • In-person and remote coaching options
  • Strong junior/competitive player support
  • Clear communication
  • Professional setup

Cons

  • Costly

Jeremy gives you simple steps to follow that allows you to improve your game.

I have been going to Jeremy for just under 1 year.  My index was close to 18 and I was very frustrated with my game.  After many lessons, my index is a 12.2 and feel that I have a lot of room for improvement.  I shot in the 70’s twice over the summer and have only done that 4 other times in my 45 years of playing golf.  Jeremy gives you simple steps to follow that allows you to improve your game.

Jeremy really got to the heart of the matter and improved my golf.

“I worked with ( took lessons from) Jeremy several years ago for several sessions. I have a natural slice and I am playing left-handed.This meant I played in the left fairway or a dropping ritual from an errant drive for years. I asked Jeremy to address this problem first. I can say after working using a new grip and footwork details on the tee I can say I have drives down the middle almost 90% of the time. After progress with my driver I asked that we look at Middle Irons, like my 6, 5 or even 4 Iron. Again after reworking my ball address and encouraging my pacing change my swing became much more consistent and  fairway Irons were looking pretty good especially in distance . Jeremy really got to the heart of the matter and improved my golf. Need to go visit him again for the always improving swing goal.”
