Public Storage is known as the largest self-storage enterprise in the world, with a whopping 198 million square feet of rentable space. 

Because they have the most branches out of all their competitors, it’s easier to find what you’re looking for from what we’ve observed. They‘ve also been around for quite a long time since 1972. 

They have around ten different unit sizes all over the Phoenix metro area, most of which are enclosed, outdoor variants with drive-up access. You can choose from a 10’ x 20’ unit up to a 12’ x 30’ and a 10’ x 40’, which could fit smaller RV rigs and boats.

After browsing over 15 of their local branches, we found that their locations over at E Chandler Boulevard and  N 67th Ave carry the most options for car storage. They also have options for uncovered outside parking for short-term storage.

The downside is, none of these units feature a climate-controlled or air-conditioned environment, which is crucial for most classic cars. 

In terms of payment, you can pay monthly which is easy on the wallet for the general consumer. However, their monthly dues are known to increase in a year, which is something to watch out for.

While it’s easy to access vehicles through the planning and layout of driveways, their gates are only open within a set time. If you’re looking for 24-hour access, this isn’t the best place to find it.

As a heads-up, online rates are cheaper compared to visiting on-site. They also offer discounts and other promos when you book online.

US Storage Centers, a California-based storage company, has been around for 30 years and has locations across 17 states. 

They have a handful of locations down in central Phoenix but it seems their branch over at  West San Miguel Avenue in Glendale houses the most options for car storage. 

Although they have enclosed drive-up units that could fit vehicles, their website does not explicitly state that these can accommodate vehicle storage. We hope they could clarify this, but you can reach out to customer service for more details. 

Speaking of, we’ve heard their attendants are pleasant and eager to help. Customers also appreciate that they’re straightforward and don’t try to upsell them.

They’re also accommodating with adjustments since one of their customers who booked a bigger unit online found that they needed a smaller space after visiting. 

Out of all the places we’ve seen, they have the widest outdoor parking that could fit a 40-foot semi-truck. If you own larger vehicles like trailers and RVs, they’re your best bet from what we’ve seen.

We noticed that a lot of their customers are RV owners who found their luck with them since comfortable parking for bigger vehicles could be harder to come around.  

The only catch is that most of their parking slots are unpaved, exposing the tires and undercarriage to dirt that could build up during long-term storage. 

As a security measure, they only have one access point and fully-fenced perimeters. The gate features keypad access and the whole facility is under 24-hour recorded surveillance, which is assuring.

Life Storage has a colorful history dating back to its inception in 1982, where it started as a financial advisory company. As of late, it has become one of the leading storage services with over a thousand locations across the US.

New locations are still popping up, with 52 all around Maricopa County. Their Metrocenter branch in particular has the most options for vehicle storage we’ve seen out of all the candidates, which is a huge plus.

We love that their climate-controlled variants vary in sizes that can fit subcompacts to RV trailers. For outdoor parking, you can conveniently avail protective covers straight from them.

The storage units themselves are properly maintained and armed with individual alarm systems. Furthermore, access points are password protected and the whole facility is monitored around the clock, ensuring the safety of your possessions.

Another thing that we like is that they provide helpful guides on their website that significantly helps in choosing the right fit for your vehicle. 

Their rates are also cheaper online, although we’ve heard some cases where the 1-month free rental isn’t honored. We hope they could follow through with the promos and discounts that are up on their site, as this could affect the loyalty of their clientele.

Nevertheless, we think they pretty much have everything down especially if you don’t want to waste time looking around for options. For us, they’re hands-down the best in the valley for your custom storage needs.

Storage King USA was founded in 2003 but has grown exponentially the past few years, putting them head-to-head with long-time contenders. They currently have five branches across the valley, but their W. Encanto Blvd location is highly recommended.

They offer a range of sizes up to 24′ x 24′, which is one of the biggest units we’ve encountered so far. This can comfortably fit most cars with extra room for furniture and other household items, which is perfect if you need multipurpose storage.

We like that customer service is consistent throughout all channels of communication. Their customers find it convenient to book and settle payments online, over the phone, or in person.

We’ve heard about a lot of great experiences at the Encanto branch in particular. The overseer Keith is highly regarded by customers for his detail-oriented management and exceptional and all-around service.

Their regular access hours are limited, but it’s easy to make arrangements with him according to customers. We appreciate a business that goes above and beyond to accommodate special requests.

Another thing we like is that their facilities are equipped with 24/7 recorded surveillance, fenced perimeters, and electronic gates. Their lanes are also well-lit and wide enough to comfortably fit large trucks.

They also have Smart Units that allow customers to monitor their storage units anywhere and anytime, which puts them at ease.

However, they require proof of insurance for your vehicle before you can rent a unit. Although this might come as a barrier for some, it’s highly recommended to keep your insurance active in case of damage or theft that may occur in storage.

Founded in 1977, Extra Space Storage is the second largest storage company in the country. They’re widely recognized for setting the standard in secure storage units and well-maintained facilities, earning them a loyal clientele.

With more than 2,000 stores across 41 states, around 20 of them are located in and around Phoenix. Out of all of them, their branches at W Thomas Road and N 27th Ave offer the widest selection in car storage, based on our survey.

Like their customers, we were sold on their extensive suite of surveillance and security systems installed all over the facility and each storage unit. They’re your best bet when it comes to storing high-end vehicles like sports and classic cars. 

They also offer an ample selection of sizes that could fit up to large pick-up trucks and cargo vans. Customers find that it’s easy to maneuver their cars through strategic access points and circulation paths.

It seems they’re committed to providing the best experience since their staff is quite amicable from what we’ve heard. They’re also easy to reach out to for concerns and help make informed decisions, especially for first-timers.

To top it all off, they have the cleanest amenities we’ve encountered, plus the exterior is easy on the eyes. Moreover, they also accommodate 24-hour access if you need to visit your unit after business hours.

These may be the reasons why their rates are higher compared to others, and we‘ve heard these are subject to increase over time. If you don’t mind paying a premium, we think it’s well worth it.
