The 5 Best Chimney Sweeps In Phoenix

The 5 Best Chimney Sweeps in Phoenix

How we picked

Capabilities

We picked services whose technicians are trained and have a proven track record to ensure the best quality of cleaning. We also considered how many years they’ve been in business.

Quality of Service

Through previous works, we evaluated the outcome of their cleaning services. They must be thorough and use the appropriate tools and equipment while keeping the work area clean.

Convenience

By interviewing some customers, we assessed their responsiveness and punctuality with reverting inquiries and other concerns. It’s also important that their services cover a wide domain in Phoenix.

Pricing Structure

To ease the process of budgeting, we chose chimney sweeps that stay firm within the time and cost estimates and are transparent with the breakdown of fees.

Pros

  • 35+ years in business
  • Rated A+ and accredited by the BBB
  • Prioritizes health and safety of users
  • Comprises of a team of certified technicians
  • Conscientious and respectful of property and pets
  • Offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee on labor

Cons

  • Can only do minor repairs
  • Few unanswered phonecalls

Top Hatter Inc. was founded by the late Ted McCaskill who was a known professional ice hockey player. They’ve been serving locals all over Phoenix since 1987 and continue to maintain a strong presence in the community.

Their desire to attain positive results is heavily rooted in improving the air quality inside of the home, overall making it a safer place to live in. By-products from burning wood can produce harmful build-up like soot, so they target its thorough removal.

This is achieved with the use of commercial-grade equipment and years of proven experience in the trade. You can expect thorough workmanship from what we’ve heard.

Some clients find their chimneys in a far better state after the techs have finished the job. They also clean well after, leaving no trace of the mess made during the cleaning process.

Another thing we love about them is how they operate on strong ethics.

One of their customers called to have their chimney cap replaced and was initially quoted $450 for a repair and cleaning. After a personal inspection, it didn’t need cleaning after all and the price went down to $75 for a cap replacement.

However, their skill in repairs can only go as far as minor issues. If you’re looking for renovations or comprehensive repairs, it’s best to look somewhere else.

A few prospects have also been overlooked and met with unanswered phone calls, but the representative seems apologetic and reaches out each time these occur.

All things considered, we tip our hats off to them for providing clients with well-rounded and safety-oriented services.

Pros

  • Extensive area coverage
  • Humane methods of bird removal
  • Customer-oriented and well-rounded approach
  • Licensed, bonded, and insured business
  • Offers comprehensive chimney services
  • Rated A+ and BBB-accredited

Cons

  • Harder to book during the heating season due to high demand
  • A few miscommunications on billings

Arizona Chimney & Air Ducts is considered a premier chimney sweep serving the Maricopa and Pinal counties since 1985. They’re also family-owned and -operated and stay on top of standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

On top of having over 35 years of industry experience and almost perfect peer review scores, they’re fully licensed, bonded, and insured. It seems they’re one of the most trusted services of its kind in the whole valley as far as we’ve searched.

Despite these achievements, owners Robert and Rebecca Derendal have apparently maintained a friendly and personal approach to their business. Because of this, a lot of their clients have become loyal throughout the years.

Communicating with them is a breeze, and they arrive and finish the job in record time according to loyal customers. They’re recommended for those keeping up with busy schedules for quick and efficient cleaning without compromising on quality.

They offer a comprehensive scope of services on chimneys aside from cleaning, such as repairs and installations of caps, top mount dampers, and bird spikes. Speaking of, we love that they don’t harm birds in their removal methods.

Be sure to call them before the cooler weather approaches since they get booked up pretty quickly and can only accommodate a number of jobs at a time.

We also wished they were clearer about bills already reflecting the coupons and other discounts, as this has confused some customers.

Pros

  • Techs are NFI- and CSIA-certified
  • Transparent with procedures and fees
  • Offers all-inclusive chimney services
  • Responsive and hands-on foreman

Cons

  • Young business of only two years
  • Small team may limit availability

Fairly new to the game, Newman’s Chimney & Dryer Vent is founded by husband and wife Preston and Rachel Newman in 2021. Since then, they have consistently grown their business and have served several homes all over the valley.

They seem to have gotten off to a good start, owing to a team of skilled technicians who hail as far as the east coast. They can handle anything from cleaning and repairs to replacing and installing parts.

They’re also certified by the National Fireplace Institute (NFI)  and the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), which represents a high standard of service. We don’t see a lot of chimney sweeps with certifications, so this increases our confidence.

This manifests in an excellent work ethic according to their small but steadily-growing clientele. We hope this continues further down the line in their career, considering they’ve only been up for two years.

As an owner-operator, Preston himself goes to the site and is hands-on with conducting business. Because of this, customers are more aware of the processes and are well-informed about the breakdown of fees.

However, they’re a small team who can only handle a limited number of customers at a time. There will be a little wait time for availability or bookings can happen beyond your desired date, which is something to consider for those who need them urgently.

Pros

  • Almost four decades in business
  • Very responsive and punctual
  • Available for same day services
  • Spends time educating customers

Cons

  • Has declined service to some customers
  • Inconsistent quality of work
  • The service seems rushed for some

A Honest Abe’s is another one of the longest-running chimney sweeps in the valley, serving areas as far as the Gold Canyon to Tolleson. They started the business selling firewood almost four decades ago but have since become a go-to for locals.

It may be because of their friendly and can-do attitude, or the number of years they’ve been doing the work. Several of their clients have come from referrals, which says a lot.

Aside from cleaning, they also offer minor repairs and installation of new chimney caps and animal screens.

The owner and operator George is particularly known for his eagerness to resolve problems, especially when it comes to unique cases. He’s also easy to reach out to and is more than inclined to offer helpful advice relevant to the work.

On the other hand, some issues may be out of his scope, and instead, refers clients to other specialists.

While we appreciate the honesty, this has led to declining the job altogether and has disappointed some customers. It’s quite understandable because of the time and money spent on inspection or the service call.

We hope he can improve on diagnosing the problem early on and setting expectations before performing any tasks.

Aside from that, they should also work on being consistent with the outcome since some jobs have been apparently rushed within 10 to 15 minutes. For some, the quality isn’t consummate with the amount paid.

Pros

  • Licensed and insured business
  • BBB-accredited and Rated A+
  • Available for same-day services
  • Has considerable knowledge of home systems and utilities
  • Offers a variety of discounts and bundles
  • Offers chimney renovations

Cons

  • Relatively new business
  • Costs a little more than others

Together with his family, Curtis Johnson has been managing Chim Chim Cheroo since opening their doors in 2018. He got a headstart as lead tech and supervising foreman at his previous company for 20 years before opening his own.

Way before then, he graduated with a degree in Architecture and a Master’s in Urban and Environmental Planning, which is remarkable. This gives him a unique and valuable perspective on home systems and approaching his current trade.

He’s also an active member of the National Chimney Sweep Guild and has earned an A+ rating and BBB accreditation, despite only having the business for four years. His philosophy is based on customer experience and high-quality results, and it shows.

Like their customers, we appreciate the generous insight when it comes to the options for cleaning and aftercare for chimney systems. They also set expectations at the onset so clients are informed about the inclusions and every step of the process.

What sets them apart is that they can renovate and update chimneys to improve their functionality and design. We recommend availing the chimney sweep in conjunction with dryer vent cleaning since they offer good deals with bundle discounts.

We’re splitting hairs at this point, but their rates are a little on the pricier side. If you’re availing chimney inspection separately, be prepared to spend as much as $150.00 exclusive of the trip charge.

Still, we think all are worth it for the quality of service – and all the useful info – you’re getting in return.
