These 5 best retirement homes in Phoenix keep seniors happy and healthy

Care quality: We checked if the retirement homes’ staff are attentive. It’s also important that they monitor the different needs of each resident.

Location: We considered the accessibility of the retirement homes, especially for families who wish to visit regularly. We also assessed their close proximity to hospitals or clinics.

Activities: We included retirement homes that offer different programs such as fitness classes and game nights. We also checked if the retirement homes arrange field trips to keep their residents engaged.

Safety: We considered whether the security protocol inside the retirement home is strict, ensuring that the residents are always safe. It’s highly important that the place has active and reliable 24/7 monitoring.

We would normally visit our relatives’ house once a month just to make sure they’re doing okay (and that their maintenance medicines are replenished). That worked until we had to hire an in-house nurse when our aunt got sick.

Three months later, we thought that it would be best to transition her to a retirement home, so she can get undivided attention every day. After all, she can enjoy her daily life and make new friends in its existing supportive community.

So if you’re also thinking about what’s best for your loved ones, you may want to check out these top retirement homes we’ve seen around Phoenix.

How much does a stay in a retirement home cost in Phoenix?

If you’re looking for a retirement home that can offer independent living, assisted living, and memory care under one roof, then we highly recommend The Manor Village.

Since this facility is relatively new, you’ll love that the space is very clean and modern, and they aim to maintain it regularly, which is really great news to us.

The place is also well-lit, and we love that they use soothing colors, which makes it more calming and inviting for both residents and visitors.

What’s great about this retirement home is that it offers several daily activities to continue mental stimulation among the elderly. They also cover various interests such as music and art.

Once a week, your loved ones can also enjoy the live entertainment in the lobby. They can even watch a movie at the in-house theatre and play Bingo with the other residents.

Another thing we love about this retirement home is that it offers a chef-curated menu, allowing residents to enjoy a different meal every day. And if they can’t make it to the dining room, we love that meals are delivered to their rooms.

However, we’re not quite happy about their laundry organization. They often misplace some clothes, so we just wish that they come up with a better tracker system in the near future.

Pros

  • Clean and modern facility
  • Chef-curated menu
  • Several activities for the elderly

Cons

  • Laundry organization could still be improved
  • Limited visiting hours

Treat residents like they’re family

“Both of my parents live at Manor Village. My father is in memory care and my mother is in assisted living. We looked at a lot of places, but as soon as we walked in and spoke to Wesley & Toby we knew this was the right place. Everyone that works here is so friendly and they treat you like family. The memory care staff are amazing and my father is doing so well here. It is clean, well taken care of and both of my parents enjoy the food. It is an amazing place, you will not regret putting your loved ones here.”

Lively energy from the community

“I have been working at The Manor for almost 3 months now, and in that time I have found a job that doesn’t feel like work at all. It is evident that the people who run the company truly care for and value their employees, it shows in the way they treat us. The staff provide care that radiates genuine compassion and joy, the building itself is immaculate all thanks to our amazing housekeeping, and the energy of the community is vibrant. I’m so grateful to be a part of a team filled with such amazing people, and I look forward to a long career at The Manor! 🩷”

If distance from the city isn’t a dealbreaker for you, then we highly suggest Mountain Park Senior Living. This retirement home is known for its quieter setting and its great views of the mountains, which makes the place even more special (and inviting!).

This retirement home also offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care, so you don’t need to worry about transitioning your loved ones from one department to another if their needs change in the near future.

What we love about this facility is that the residents can still fully enjoy their old daily routines, while being closely watched by their dedicated and caring staff.

They also offer housekeeping services twice a week, so you don’t need to worry about the cleanliness of their place. The outdoor spaces are also regularly maintained, allowing the elderly to safely roam outside during the day.

Aside from their daily routine, the residents can also check out the retirement home’s activity calendar if they want more entertainment or engagement. Here, they can participate in fitness classes and attend social gatherings outside the facility.

However, you need to provide your loved ones with their own phones and even a personal Wi-Fi connection, as this isn’t provided in the total package.

Pros

  • Ideal for long-term retirement plans
  • Several daily activities
  • Regular maintenance, indoor and outdoor

Cons

  • Wi-Fi connectivity isn’t included in the package
  • Not the most convenient location

The apartment has great mountain views

“I was so relieved when I found Mountain Park Senior Living. I hadn’t looked at other places, this was the first stop and I immediately knew “this is it.” We recently relocated our (91+ yo) Mom back to AZ. Brenda, Mackenzie, Omar, Mitzi, Inez, Michael…the entire staff have been so helpful to not only myself getting everything ready for her arrival, but making for a smooth transition. To top it off, the apartment is absolutely gorgeous with a view of South Mountain. Everything is clean. Mom (Barb) fits right in, she says the food is great, and everyone there is very helpful and accommodating. My family could not be happier nor more grateful to everyone at Mountain Park Senior Living for furnishing a nice and safe place for our Mom.’

Has several activities

“We moved our 90 year old widowed mother from out-of-state to be closer to us. She had a lot of trepidation about re-locating away from her home town but has been very pleased with her new home. She comments several times a day about how friendly the staff and the residents are. There are many outstanding activities and amenities to suit the interests of residents. The staff has been very accommodating about working with some of her established habits and the chef & dining staff met with us to figure out good ways to address her dietary restrictions. The setting is in a quiet area so she has been sleeping very well. Mountain Park Senior Living is a very well cared for and a very clean home for the residents and we have felt that the care provided in assisted living has been a good value. Our mom is content and happy and that is always the best testimonial of all!”

Clarendale Arcadia is a retirement home with a premium touch. In fact, when we stepped inside the facility, we thought that we were inside a 5-star hotel.

The common spaces even looked like a hotel lobby, which actually made me second-guess whether this was really a retirement home.

One of the highlights of staying here in Clarendale is their chef-curated meals. You’ll love that they can also adjust their meals to the various dietary restrictions.

We’ve also heard great things about how they care for a dementia patient through a close friend, and we admire them for being on their toe.

They’re also great when it comes to building routines, and we love that they always stick to their regular schedule, ensuring the older folks eat on time.

They also follow a good schedule for laundry services, which will give you peace of mind that everything is kept clean. In fact, you’ll love that the rooms are always organized and clean, even during surprise visits.

Another thing that we love about this retirement home is that you can always visit your loved ones anytime. You can also call them even late at night, and their staff will always be ready to answer.

Pros

  • Premium ambiance
  • Various dietary requirements can be met
  • Ideal for memory care

Cons

  • Premium rates
  • Visitor parking is quite limited

Spacious living space

“I toured Clarendale Arcadia yesterday, and it is an absolutely beautiful community. The homes are extremely spacious and well thought out, and all the staff I met was so down to earth and nice. I highly recommend you take a tour of this gorgeous community. It is in the heart of the Biltmore area, and there are mountain views from almost every room in the building. Great job Clarenedale Arcadia – you have created a wonderful environment for people in their later years. The amenities and food program is amazing, and I have toured a lot of Senior Communities. Keep up the great work.”

Has a luxurious ambiance

“We rented an apartment for our 92-year old mother, who moved from a private condo in Pittsburgh. We had been impressed with the aesthetics of the building, the services provided, and the general feeling of a luxury hotel. The staff have proved to be exceptionally friendly, caring and helpful. The dining room and the meals are excellent. Although our mother naturally had some trepidation about her new chapter, she has been very positive about and pleased that she lives there. Highly recommend.”

For those looking for an affordable option, Fellowship Square is here for you. From the moment we walked in, we immediately felt that everyone here was very warm and welcoming.

While we were on a tour, we even observed that most of the residents greeted each other by name. It really felt more like a neighborhood than a retirement facility.

Fellowship Square is also known for having a faith-based environment, which is perfect for spiritual folks. Here, they can enjoy regular chapel services and participate in Bible study groups that encourage engagement among other residents.

Meanwhile, you don’t need to worry about your loved ones’ regular doctor’s appointments, as this facility has a dedicated transport team.

We also love that there’s an on-site hairstylist, perfect for those with mobility issues.

We appreciate that they’re upfront with their costs, and you can even see the prices on their website. The best part is that there are no hidden monthly fees.

Well, if you want to save more, this retirement home also offers subsidized options. However, there’s a longer waitlist for this, so we suggest signing up early if you prefer this option.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly retirement home option
  • Offers subsidized senior living services
  • Feels like a close neighborhood
  • Known for its faith-based environment
  • Upfront costs

Cons

  • Longer waiting period for subsidized services
  • Facilities aren’t modern

Great food selection

“My mother just moved here, and we have been impressed from the moment we stepped on the campus. Rozelle was amazing in being patient during our many tours. She found my mother the perfect apartment. Then we ate in the dining hall. The food was amazing and the waiters- Luis, Joshua, and Riley were personable and took excellent care of us. I am so happy to know that my mother is at such a great place!”

The facility feels safe and secure

“Well maintained grounds. Quick response on maintenance requests. Professional caring Staff. With their Security Staff, I feel safe 24/7. My Wife and I have lived here for one year”

What we love most about LifeStream at North Phoenix is that the older people don’t have to deal with stairs. Yes, this facility is a one-story establishment.

It’s also very spacious, so we weren’t surprised that the facility can comfortably accommodate several residents without feeling crowded.

When we checked the place, we loved that it looked like a home, complete with amenities such as the washer and dryer room, kitchen, carports, and even a reliable Wi-Fi connection.

There’s also on-site housekeeping and maintenance services, so the elderly don’t have to clean their living spaces.

What’s great about this retirement home is that they’re pet-friendly, so the senior residents can have a four-legged companion inside the facility.

The community here is really very friendly and welcoming. They even initiate programs that support one another spiritually, perfect for Christian residents.

Some residents can also transition from independent living to assisted living if more medical attention is needed. And while the two living spaces aren’t located in the same area, friends from other services can still come by and visit.

This facility can also take your loved ones to local shopping areas, allowing them to continue enjoying what they’re accustomed to.

However, expect a longer waitlist queue. If you’re not in a hurry, simply be patient and wait for your slot to become available.

Pros

  • One-story establishment
  • Spacious facility
  • Pet-friendly

Cons

  • Longer queue on the waitlist
  • Compliance with dietary restrictions could still be improved

Welcoming community

“Amazing staff assisting with transitioning elderly parent into the facility. The food is excellent. Many on site amenities and activities. The people in the community are friendly and welcoming!”

Stephanie Erickson, Google Review

Responsive staff

“As a recent widow, I was concerned that my mom might feel lost living in someplace new, but LifeStream is so wonderful that she felt right at home! Residents are friendly and neighborly– each morning safely spacing to meet and raise the flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance together. The staff is the kind, supportive and responsive — serving needs throughout this pandemic by personally delivering meals to the doorstep to keep everyone safe. We could not be more pleased with this lovely community!”
