From the get go, Dr. Ali Borhan has impressive credentials, with a medical degree from Albany Medical College and a long list of honors and awards. He even graduated with a prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha distinction. 

He then completed his residency in surgery and urology at the University of Rochester. What sets Dr. Borhan apart is that he’s one of the first urologic surgeons in the country who has extensive training in robotic and advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive techniques. 

In particular, he’s a good option if you’re seeking help with cancer treatment (kidney, testicular, bladder, prostate), prostate enlargement disease, female and male incontinence, stone disease, hormonal therapy and fertility, nutrition and preventive health, or vasectomies. 

His leading urology practice recently has two new surgical techniques which includes bladder Botox injections and Firefly fluorescence imaging  that enables less invasive and more precise robotic surgery. 

Aside from how talented and experienced Dr. Borhan is, we really like how easy it is to approach him. His easy going personality really puts you at ease. 

He’s very communicative so it really lessens the anxiety toward procedures. 

One thing we noticed however, is that their clinic’s online booking form is a bit cluttered, making it a bit difficult to set an appointment. We think it’s best if you just give them a call directly to set an appointment. 

There are also times where there are significant waiting times based on our experience and our poll of their previous patients. So that’s something to consider. 

If you’re looking for a holistic approach to urology, Dr. Y. Mark Hong is a wonderful option. He has a stellar academic background with a medical degree from Stanford and residency in Harvard. 

He specializes in minimally invasive surgery at integrative urology in particular. To give you insight in the procedures he performs, here’s a list you can refer to:

He’s personable and really sees to it that you’re making well-informed decisions when it comes to your health. We’re not the only ones who think so. 

Based on his other patients’ feedback, he’s really known for his personal approach and excellence at what he does. Overall, we think he’s a doctor worth a mention on our list.

Dr. Alexander is a board-certified urologist who specializes in prostate disease including BPH/enlarged prostate and abnormal PSA values, robotic prostate surgery, bladder surgery, kidney surgery,prostate surgery, stone surgery, female incontinence surgery, and the no-scalpel vasectomy technique. 

He has won multiple awards and has an impressive academic background, with a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and urology residency at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine. 

We like that he’s friendly and easy to talk to about your concerns. He’s professional and really cares about his patients, from what we’ve seen. 

One thing we like about him being a part of Arizona Urology Specialists is that it’s a big clinic so there are a lot of other board-certified urologists that he can refer you to should you need additional care. 

Their team also includes a radiation oncologist and advanced practice providers (APPs) with physician assistants and nurse practitioners always ready to provide support. However, since this is a big clinic, it may be hard to set an appointment here. 

So that’s something to consider with this clinic. They also don’t have an online form so everything has to be done through phone or in person. 

Dr. Stern has years of experience under his belt and a really impressive track record. He’s a known international speaker on urologic surgery, presenting at different conferences locally and internationally. 

One of his usual topics is da Vinci robotic prostatectomy, one of the most advanced treatments for prostate cancer. His expertise is in minimally invasive surgery for prostate cancer, kidney cancer, urinary incontinence, and bladder prolapse.

We like that his expertise lies in using cutting-edge technology in urology. He’s proficient in robotic surgery, nerve-sparing technique of radical prostatectomy, and GreenLight laser treatment. 

Aside from his depth of expertise, he’s also a very reliable doctor who’s thorough and has rich attention to detail. He will guide you through every step, from your diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. 

We also like that there are a lot of other providers at the Academic Urology and Urogynecology of Arizona that you can consult with as well. They have a pretty big team so you don’t have to worry if you need additional support. 

Their staff are all very friendly and will happily assist you to book your appointment or surgery. Do take note that their website is very outdated, making it hard to look through their services and check information. 

Dr. Sanjay Ramakumar is a board certified urologist with 20 years of experience in urologic surgery. He was one of the pioneers of advanced laparoscopic surgery in Southern Arizona in 2001. 

His clinical passion is really minimally invasive surgery for urologic cancer and the Urolift system. What we like about him is how he really provides the best level of customer service to his patients. 

You really feel heard because of the effective communication he has with his patients. He makes sure that you’re well informed about your conditions and know your options thoroughly. 

He even encourages you to do your own research and to ask questions. He doesn’t just have decades of experience and passion for what he does, he also deeply cares about his patients from what we’ve seen.
