Website: https://www.valleybarphx.com/

Address: 130 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004

Contact Number: (602) 368-3121

Business Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 6PM–2AM; Monday, CLOSED

We simply cannot make a list of live music venues and not include Valley Bar. The popular hangout spot has a Music Hall that’s cozy and intimate, especially for concerts.

It’s quite literally a hidden gem as you’ll need to navigate through a dark alley and descend into the basement, but it’s well-worth the bit of extra effort.

The good thing about this place is that you can sit anywhere and still be close to the stage. Acoustics are great, the vibe is chill, and it’s a no-frills amazing spot to music.

While a variety of musicians play different genres of music here, you’ll often be bobbing your head along to rock music. And, you can do so with an excellent selection of drinks – cocktails, beers, wine, you name it, they’ve got it!

Because the place can only accommodate a maximum of 250 people, a lot of music shows get sold out in advance. Book your tickets through their website and make sure to show up early.

What is the ambience like at Valley Bar?

The Valley Bar has a casual, edgy, and very hipster ambience to it. Amazingly enough, it’s not rowdy and manages to stay classy.

2. The Nile Theater

The Nile Theater

Website: https://www.theniletheater.com/

Address: 105 W Main St, Mesa, AZ 85210

Contact Number: (480) 559-5859

Business Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 6PM–2AM; Monday, CLOSED

The Nile Theater may have been closed for a few years, but it recently reopened and now features rock, punk, metal, and up-and-coming hardcore music shows.

Interestingly, it used to be a 1920s movie theater. Today, all three rooms are used for various types of shows and one even doubles as a vegan cafe.

What’s great about this place is how they were able to maximize the space so that you get a huge floor space and a large stage.

Plus, they upgraded their sound system so you have awesome acoustics.  The sound mix is fantastic, too, and the sound engineers seem to really enjoy what they’re doing.

We love coming here not just for the music experience, but for the friendliest staff ever! Everyone seems to know everyone and despite the crowds, it never gets too rowdy.

We wouldn’t recommend this if you’re looking for a chill music lounge. Still, we think the place is worth checking out.

Where do you park at the Nile?

You can park behind the theater and on any open street nearby the Nile. Specifically, you may park at Orange Lot 139 Mahoney Street, Gold Lot38 Drew Street, or Green Lot1 N MacDonald Street.

3. Crescent Ballroom

Website: https://www.crescentphx.com/

Address: 308 N 2nd Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85003

Contact Number: (602) 716-2222

Business Hours: Wednesday to Thursday, 4PM–11PM; Friday, 4PM–2AM; Saturday, 8PM–2AM; Sunday, 4PM–10PM; Monday to Tuesday, CLOSED

The Crescent Ballroom is the sister venue of Valley Bar. It’s located right next door in a nondescript building with brick walls and lots of history behind it.

It was built in 1917 and was once home of the F.L. Hart Garage that played a huge part in the transportation history of Phoenix. The street was once referred to as “Broadway to America” and was lined with major automobile garages.

Today, the ballroom plays host to many local and international music artists. And while you do get a nice mix of genres, it’s mostly pop and rock that people come here to enjoy.

The place itself is also intimate and has one of the nicest layouts, at least, in our opinion. You get standing room on either side of the stage and some tiered seating towards the back.

The stage is also not too high, so feel free to get up close with the artists. And, the sound system is just chef’s kiss – modern, well-built, and loud and clear.

What is the capacity at Crescent Ballroom?

The Crescent Ballroom has a capacity of 500 guests.

4. Musical Instrument Museum

Musical Instrument Museum

Website: https://mim.org/

Address: 4725 E Mayo Blvd, Phoenix, AZ 85050

Contact Number: (480) 478-6000

Business Hours: Monday to Saturday, 9AM–5PM; Sunday, 10AM–5PM

The Musical Instrument Museum in Tempe is renowned worldwide for having one of the largest collections of instruments on display. It’s also home to the MIM Music Theater, which is a 300-seater concert venue for folk-rock, Latin, and more.

Over 200 artists perform here every year. More often, their guests are ones that haven’t performed in Phoenix yet, which is why a lot of people come here to watch those rare concerts.

Some of the notable artists that have performed here are The Skatalites, The Bacon Brothers, 76th Street, and more.

Why is MIM in Phoenix?

Phoenix was the top choice in establishing the MIM for its strong tourism and culturally-diverse population.

5. Yucca Tap Room

Yucca Tap Room

Website: https://www.yuccatap.com/

Address: 29 W Southern Ave, Tempe, AZ 85282

Contact Number: (480) 967-4777

Business Hours: Monday to Sunday, 6AM–2AM

Think of Yucca Tap Room as a neighborhood hangout with lively music, excellent beers and whiskey, and a small arcade. It’s the ultimate spot for a nightly music sesh, should you be in the mood for it.

The Tempe bar has been around for over 40 years now. To this day, it has a steady stream of loyal customers looking for pop and rock jams, as well as other occasional genres.

Both local and national acts have performed on their stage, but they also try to share the stage with up-and-coming local artists.

We love, too, that they have a full-service bar that lets you get a proper view of the stage anywhere you choose to sit. The lounge itself has 29 beers on tap and a wide variety of spirits to go with some mean bar chow.

What forms of payment are accepted at Yucca Tap Room?

Yucca Tap Room accepts cash and all credit cards.

6. Last Exit Live

Last Exit Live

Website: https://lastexitlive.com/

Address: 717 S Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004

Contact Number: (602) 271-7000

Business Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 7PM–1AM; Friday to Saturday, 7PM–2PM

What began as a small shopping center in 2003 became a full-blown intimate concert venue attracting fans and music enthusiasts. To this day, Last Exit Live plays host to both local and international touring acts.

Some of the big names that have played on its stage are Gin Blossoms, Gang of Four, Mother Mother, Jessica Hernandez, and even The Deltas.

Despite its popularity, it managed to maintain a cozy ambience – very much of an indie music club. The bright pop of red on the stage and the curtains are iconic, too, if we’re being frank.

But if you’re uncomfortable with tight spaces, then you might want to skip this place. Still, it’s a great place to hear live music up close to the artists, and we think you should experience it at least once.

Where can I park on Last Exit Live?

For those driving to Last Exit Live, there’s a designated parking space on the north and south side of the building. Plenty of street parking is available, too.

7. Marquee Theater

Marquee Theater
Image Source: Arthur B. via TripAdvisor.com

Website: https://marqueetheatreaz.com/

Address: 730 N Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85281

Contact Number: (480) 829-0607

The Marquee Theater is one of the most popular places to catch huge concerts. Prominent acts such as Black Keys, Bastille, and Foster the People have already set foot on the stage, as well as local up-and-coming pop artists.

The concert hall is a regular touring stop for many national artists. So if you’re hoping to catch Selena Gomez, Green Day, or even the Jonas Brothers, you’ll most likely hear them live here.

It’s a 1,500-seater concert venue with an excellent sound system and comfortable seats to boot. Standing area is, of course, available for those who really want to get into the spirit of things.

Where can I park at Marquee Theater?

On-site parking is available at Marquee Theater, but it is quite limited. For bigger shows, you may avail of additional parking at the high-rise building north of the theater.

8. The Rebel Lounge

The Rebel Lounge

Website: https://therebellounge.com/

Address: 2303 E Indian School Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85016

Contact Number: (602) 296-7031

Business Hours: Monday to Sunday, 7AM–12AM

The Rebel Lounge was established just in 2015, but it has already seen some of the biggest local and international up-and-coming artists.

LANY, The Maine, Summer Salt, The Frights, and Never Shout Never are just a few of the artists that have performed here.

It’s also an award-winning venue, having been named Best Rock Club, Best Punk Club, and Best Rebooted Venue by the Phoenix New Times.

We love coming here for the stellar acoustics and vibe. It can only accommodate approximately 300 people, so it stays relatively intimate and it never gets too crowded.

The upside, too, is that you get to see the bands and artists from just a short distance no matter where you stand! It really makes the concert experience all the more exciting.

What forms of payment are accepted at The Rebel Lounge?

Cash and all kinds of credit cards are accepted at The Rebel Lounge.

9. The Lost Leaf

The Lost Leaf

Website: https://thelostleaf.org/

Address: 914 N 5th St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

Contact Number: (602) 258-0014

Business Hours: Monday to Sunday, 5PM–2AM

The Lost Leaf is more known to be a pub and an art gallery, but we’re more inclined to come here for the music. Every night, they invite bands and DJs to play a variety of genres – though, mostly pop and rock.

It’s not common knowledge, but this place seems to truly care for the local music industry. In fact, they’ve donated over $250,000 directly to Phoenix musicians since 2006.

What we love about this place is that everyone seems to know everyone. Despite being a crowded and popular hangout spot, the vibe is always happy but not overly rowdy.

Also, they serve some of the best beers in town, in our humble opinion. The bar chow isn’t half bad, either.

Does The Lost Leaf participate during First Fridays?

The Lost Leaf is an active participant during First Fridays! In fact, it’s at the center of all First Friday festivities.

They typically invite up-and-coming artists and offer special discounts on drinks and food on these days.

Most bands and artists on their lineup are local indie artists. They’re only on the hunt for fresh vocals and melodies to keep customers interested.

Apart from the music, you can enjoy their extensive 60-tap draught beer menu! A lot of their patrons actually love coming here for the fun vibe that’s not overly noisy or rowdy.

Here, the American art form of jazz music stays well and truly alive. They invite musicians and jazz enthusiasts to take on the stage and let everyone transcend into a modern musical experience.

Not only that, but they also provide educational programs to help foster the local jazz community. It’s both a concert club and a learning space – one that exudes no pretentiousness; rather, welcomes all to celebrate the rich tradition of jazz.

When popular R&B club, Char’s Has The Blues, closed in 2020, many of its regulars were distraught. Thankfully, the new owners of the building decided to preserve its tradition of blues, soul, and funk acts.

Known today as Chars LIVE, the nondescript building was transformed into an even better venue for live music. They opened up a patio space that allows their customers to enjoy the performances in a chill, al fresco area.

Unlike most places, music is played here every night. So whether you’re coming in on a Friday night or on a Monday, you won’t be disappointed with an empty stage.

The venue has also been named “Best Club for Blues” by the Phoenix New Times several times. And, there’s a dance floor, too, that you won’t normally find in similar clubs.

The owners took inspiration from Phoenix’s historic lounge in the 60’s, Chez Nouz. You’ll notice it in the way the place was designed as it has a lot of vintage nods and “throwback feels”.

Note that they have a larger selection of liquor than food. We suggest having dinner elsewhere and coming here after for some tasteful cocktails and spirits.

The Womack is a great place to go for a date. It has an intimate setting that’s not overly noisy nor rowdy.

Take it from their name – they mostly invite up-and-coming jazz and blues artists on these nights. If you want to discover fresh talent and new sound, this is one of the best places to be.

They mostly serve craft cocktails and liquors, so there’s not much food on the menu. They do have some seriously delicious bar chow, though.

Live jazz is played here every Thursday night. The best part is that it’s a family-friendly place, so feel free to bring your kids along!

They also welcome donations and proceeds go to local charities. Apparently, they work with jazz foundations to allow fresh talent to come play on their stage.

Admittedly, it’s not the fanciest place out there, but it is affordable and for a good cause. So, coming here is still a win-win in our book.

Bourbon Jack’s American Tavern is another Western-style bar and grill that showcases some good ol’ country music on most nights. It’s the place to be if you love loud and lively music, dancing, and strong drinks.

Here, you get the full country bar experience (sans the sawdust and the peanut shells). Their selection of beers and liquor is quite extensive, and we find their food hearty and flavorful, as well.

It’s a lovely place to celebrate parties and birthdays – the servers will be more than happy to celebrate with you, too! Plus, they’re open ‘til the wee hours of the morning so you have more time to enjoy the night.

Does Bourbon Jack’s Bar and Grill offer takeout?

Bourbon Jacks Bar and Grill offers both takeout and dine-in services. But we highly-suggest you come and experience the bar yourself!

The place itself screams country, with all the cowboy hats hanging on the ceiling and nods to Wild, Wild, West all over the interiors. There’s also an indoor dance floor so make sure to wear your best dancing boots!

Address: 7245 E Main St, Scottsdale, AZ 85251

Contact Number: (480) 425-7787

Business Hours: Monday to Thursday, 10AM–12AM; Friday to Saturday, 10AM–1AM; Sunday, CLOSED

Rusty Spur Saloon is the first-ever bar in Scottsdale, having been established in 1951. So, if you’re looking for a vintage and authentic country bar, then this is the best place to be.

And before you sit down, know that you’re in a real registered historical landmark. The building actually dates back to 1921 which used to be the original site of the Farmers State Bank of Scottsdale.

Fun fact: the bank vault is still here! It has since been converted into a refrigerated unit used to store modern valuables a.k.a. liquor and beer.

Once you walk through their swinging doors, you’ll find yourself transported to old Western times. Rodeo cowboys and city slickers serve guests at the bar, and the music is courtesy of local country musicians.

We tell you – what a vibe this place is!

Do you need to book in advance to visit Rusty Spur Saloon?

It’s generally recommended to book your tables in advance, though Rusty Spur Saloon does welcome walk-ins. This is because they usually get full early in the night.

Address: 2303 N 44th St, Phoenix, AZ 85008

Contact Number: (602) 840-2726

Business Hours: Monday to Sunday, 11AM–2AM

The Dirty Drummer is a neighborhood watering hole that’s been around since 1975. They serve classic American dishes, drinks, and more.

However, they’re mainly a sports bar that holds live music sessions on most nights. A lot of artists who play here bring their country on and it always seems to light the place up.

The place is also relatively larger than other bars, but the acoustics are great nevertheless! We suggest coming on a Saturday night as the place is usually packed and bouncing to Western music.

What forms of payment are accepted at The Dirty Drummer?

The Dirty Drummer accepts both cash and credit card payments.

Address: 16825 W Yuma Rd, Goodyear, AZ 85338

Contact Number: (623) 932-0922

Business Hours: Monday to Sunday, 11AM–2AM

Roman’s Oasis is a tin-roofed shack decked with wagon wheels and a large white rooster standing ostensibly out front. It’s quite hard to miss, even when you’re not looking for it.

Inside, you’ll find a ton of neon beer signs and NASCAR memorabilia. It’s truly what you’d expect a dive bar to be – eclectic, intimate, and cluttered with personality.

But if live country music is what you’re after, then you’re in the right place. Many locals believe that this is the best country dive bar there is in the valley; plus, they have a karaoke section that you and your friends can take advantage of.

What forms of payment are accepted at Roman’s Oasis?

Roman’s Oasis strictly accepts only cash payments. Apple Pay and credit cards will not be honored here.

Over at Mesa’s Main Street, Roosters Country remains to be an iconic honky-tonk with motorcycles, pool tables, and virtually dim lights.

It’s a casual setting that serves beer, cocktails, and specially-curated drinks. They also often invite local country artists to come sing and entertain their guests.

A karaoke section is also available, and they usually have open mic nights. So if you’re looking not to just listen to country music but perform it as well, then this would be a solid choice.

Does Roosters Country have outdoor seating?

Roosters Country has both outdoor and indoor seating.

Contact Number: (480) 882-2995

Business Hours: Sunday to Thursday, 11AM–10PM; Friday to Sunday, 11AM–11PM

Camping without having to rough it up in the wild? We say yes – and it’s possible at San Tan Flat.

San Tan Flat is mostly an American eatery that looks and feels like a large cookout. They serve some mean barbecues and steaks, along with burgers and chicken.

But the star of the show, at least for us, is the stream of live country bands playing in the background almost every night.

It’s a super fun ambience, but we do recommend coming here for dinner as it gets a little too hot for our liking during the day.

What forms of payment are accepted at San Tan Flat?

Both cash and all credit cards are accepted at San Tan Flat.

Business Hours: Monday to Thursday, 9AM–12AM; Friday to Sunday, 8AM–2AM

The Silver Pony is a neighborhood dive that’s intimate and small, but wealthy of good drinks and entertainment. On Fridays and Saturdays, they welcome musicians that amazingly showcase Western and country music.

Here, you can also take on the stage or do some karaoke with your peers. Think of them as honky-tonk, but a nice, classy one at that.

We do suggest coming in early if you plan on staying long, as seating is a bit difficult to get around here. The upside is, they’re one of the few pubs in the area that stay open well-past midnight.

What forms of payment are accepted at The Silver Pony?

The Silver Pony recently started accepting all credit card payments, along with cash.
