Pros
- Offers board and train programs and private lessons
- Thorough evaluation
- Tailor-fit programs
- Open daily
Cons
- Expensive
- Not a big school with different group classes and wide range of instructors
Rob’s Dogs started with the owner’s deep interest and love for training dogs. The business grew through the years because of word of mouth within the community.
After our experience with this school, it wasn’t hard to see why they’re a respected institution for dog training in Phoenix. They have a very methodical and tailored approach in training; garnering effective results.
They offer two different services: the Board and Train Program and private lessons. Their Board and Train program is perfect for people with very busy schedules because your dog will stay with them for a period of time and then they also show you how to enforce the learned commands.
It’s very efficient and convenient, from what we’ve seen. Another option is to have private lessons where you and your dog get one-on-one classes with the trainer.
For both programs, your dog can learn how to come when called, walk by your side, lie down, and stay. Training usually starts with an evaluation where they will assess your needs and goals for the training.
The kind of training will depend on their assessment of your dog’s temperament, energy levels, reactivity to other dogs, and other issues. They’re very thorough and really tailor their training for your needs and budget.
Based on our poll of their previous clients, the improvements after their training are incredible. They praise Rob’s skill sets in training dogs, which we can attest to.
Take note, however, that this school isn’t that big. If you’re looking for a facility that has a wide range of trainers and different sets of group classes, then this might not be the best school for you.
We also noticed that their programs are pricey, so if you’re on a tight budget, it might be best to check other schools on our list. You can check the table below for the prices.
Service | Price | Duration |
Evaluation | $80 | 45 minutes |
Board and Train | $1,250-$1500 | Per week |
On leash training | $500-1250 | – |
Off leash program | $750-1,950 | – |

- Affordable rates
- International Association of Canine Professionals or IACP certification
- Gentle technique in dog training
- Wide range of services
Cons
- Inconsistent operating hours
- Closed on Sundays
- No online booking system
With over 30 years of experience in dog training and an International Association of Canine Professionals or IACP certification under their belts, Cathy’s Canines has established a solid reputation as dog trainers in Phoenix.
We were also impressed and intrigued by their perfect Google Reviews rating. Based on our experience, we saw exactly why they have such positive client feedback.
One thing we noticed is that they employ very gentle techniques when training dogs. They don’t use e-collars or fear and dominance in training but rely on body language and a slip leash.
In their own words, they train with respect and trust, which we really like. We also appreciate that they teach you how to effectively read what state of mind your dog is in and help you calm your dog during the training process.
Personally, they really helped in making us feel confident in assessing our dogs and armed us with the knowledge and tools to handle our dogs. They just have such a positive outlook and it shows in their methods of teaching.
They offer a wide range of services including basic manners training for older dogs and puppies, boot camps, social events for big and small dogs, as well as some basic dog grooming services such as teeth cleaning, which you can do on site or in the comforts of your own home.
Whether you want your dog to be trained in your home or in the facility, they have options here for you. If you’re not sure about which training your dog will benefit the most from, you can also schedule an evaluation. This will cost around $40.
We noticed that the prices of their services are cheaper than most facilities. To give you a better idea, here’s a price list.

Pros
- Experienced and knowledgeable trainers
- Flexible scheduling options
- Positive reputation and satisfied customers
- Affordable pricing and value for money
Cons
- Can get pretty busy during peak seasons
Our experience with Balancing Paws was a barking good time.
From the moment we walked in, their friendly staff made us feel like top dogs, providing a welcoming atmosphere that set the tail-wagging tone for our training sessions.
Convenience is a pet owner’s best friend, and Balancing Paws knows it. They offer flexible scheduling options that cater to even the busiest of dog parents.
It’s like they have a magical ability to read our minds and anticipate our needs. Now that’s some next-level dog whispering.
When it comes to reputation, Balancing Paws has earned their canine credentials. They have a loyal pack of satisfied customers who swear by their training methods.
It’s no wonder they’re the talk of the dog park. Trust us, you won’t find a better pack leader than the folks at Balancing Paws.
Now, let’s talk about cost, because we’re not made of kibble.
We love that Balancing Paws knows budgeting is a real struggle, so they’ve managed to strike the perfect balance between quality and affordability.
Their pricing is like a well-trained pup — never out of control and always well-behaved. It’s a win-win for both our fur babies and our wallets.
During our training sessions, it was clear Balancing Paws knows their stuff. Their knowledgeable trainers had us feeling like proud parents as our furry friends quickly picked up new tricks, which blew us away.
However, they can get pretty busy during peak seasons. We advise booking training sessions ahead of time to avoid delays.

Pros
- Intensive dog training programs
- Schutzhund dog training available
- Three very qualified trainers to choose from
- Wide range of classes and services
Cons
- Inconsistent hours
- More experience handling bigger breeds
- Not transparent with prices
- No online booking system
If you’re looking for a more intensive dog training program, Quality K-9 is the institution for you. They offer a wide range of training programs for different needs whether it’s for sport, competition, basic, or advanced canine training.
Their specializations include dog obedience training, canine behavior modification, and Schutzhund dog training. Schutzhund is a German term for a protection dog and does the same tasks as a police K9.
To get that Schutzhund title, dogs have to undergo thorough training with a three phase exam in tracking, obedience, and protection. This kind of training is what sets this institution apart from the others.
One of the things we like most about them is that their training uses positive motivation and good leadership. Their methods along with their personalized training plan based on your goals help achieve faster results and longer-lasting skills, from what we’ve seen.
We like that they offer dog boarding and training, as well as private and in-home training depending on your needs. They have a wide range of classes you can choose from as well that target different aspects of dog behavior and skills.
They also have three very qualified trainers with different skills and certifications, so it would be easy to find one that would fit your goals and needs.
Plus, their trainers are very professional. They’re easy to work with and really have a passion for dogs that’s infectious.
We did notice that they have more experience handling bigger dog breeds, so that’s something to consider with this institution. They also don’t post their prices or have online booking systems unlike the other institutions, making it harder to book an appointment.
Still, we think that they’re a facility that’s worth a mention in this list.

Pros
- Affordable classes
- 9 years of extensive experience in training and competing
- Wide selection of classes for every need and level
- Accessible location
Cons
- Outdated website
- Aggressive dogs aren’t allowed in group classes
- Only one instructor
We were intrigued by Foothills Canine Academy Brenda Dreyer’s perfect Google Reviews rating and established clientele and were eager to try them out for ourselves. We weren’t disappointed.
Their founder, Brenda Dreyer, has over 9 years of extensive experience in dog training, competing, and instructing. Her level of experience is apparent in all her lessons, from what we’ve seen.
She’s an AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Trick Dog evaluator. She’s also a known Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT).
Aside from her qualifications, she’s also a breeze to work with. She also has a goal to provide all owners with the knowledge and tools for training and understanding your dog.
So whether your goal is to improve your dog’s basic manners or you want to enter them in a competition, this facility can help you achieve your goals.
They offer class sessions which run seven consecutive weeks for a total of $150, which is really affordable compared to the other facilities we tried. They also offer private lessons, in case that’s what you and your pup needs.
Below are the prices for your reference:
- $75 for 1 Hour
- $125 for 2 Hours
- $260 for 4 Lessons (1 hour)
- $325 for 5 Lessons (1 hour)
They have so many available classes depending on your dog’s level. They have AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Open, Utility, Rally, and many more.
Do know that aggressive dogs aren’t allowed in her classes, so you have to consult with her personally to see what kind of arrangement will work best for you.
Based on our poll of her previous clients, all praise how efficient and effective Brenda is in her classes. They say that she creates a conducive environment and a safe space for puppies and dogs to learn, which we can attest to.
Her facility is also great and easily accessible, based on our experience. One thing we noticed, though, is that her website is outdated, making it inconvenient to look through her services.
Nevertheless, we still think that her facility is worth mentioning for her proven track record and effective methods.

Cons
- No facility of their own
- Range of classes not as extensive as competitors
One of the things we like most about Nate Dog Training is their dedicated attention to their clients. They’re available daily and consistently open at 8 AM and end at 6 PM, which we really like.
They’re well known for helping with dog behavior problems. Their training program is designed to help owners know their dogs better.
They’re really hands-on with their training and use positive reinforcement to teach your dog. What we like about them is that they work with all breeds, ages, and temperaments, so all dogs are welcome, essentially.
We did note that they don’t have a facility of their own.Training is usually done in your home, in public parks, or in Pet Planet Ahwatukee, so that’s something to consider with this school.
We also noticed that they don’t offer a wide range of programs compared to other schools. They offer private training and puppy training through the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program.
Despite this, we included them because of their proven track record and tailored programs for your dogs. They’re fiercely dedicated and their methods in their back-to-dog basics training program are simple yet effective.
They really arm you with techniques on how to handle and train your dog better. Nate, their founder, is a certified dog trainer and behavior expert from Animal Behavior College with over 15 years of experience.
He also works with rescue groups to help their most severe cases to socialize and train them. Working with him showed us why he’s named as one of the Best of 2015 Phoenix Dog Trainers on Thumbtack.

Pros
- Tailored training plans for each dog and owner
- Focus on positive attention to reinforce desirable behaviors
- Practical and effective solutions to common behavioral issues
Cons
- Higher cost compared to traditional group classes
Destination Dog Training offers a comprehensive, real-world approach to dog training, aiming to equip dogs and their owners with the skills necessary to navigate daily life successfully. The training philosophy centers on four key principles: a tailored approach to each dog and owner, building a foundation in a home environment, exposing dogs to real-world situations, and creating behavioral patterns that lead to consistently positive outcomes.
We like that each dog and owner receives a tailored training plan that addresses their specific needs and challenges. This personalized attention ensures that training is relevant and effective. Additionally, training takes place in a home environment, allowing dogs to learn and adapt in the settings they encounter daily. This practical approach ensures that training is not just theoretical but applicable to real-life situations, leading to better-behaved dogs at home and in public.
Furthermore, the focus on positive attention reinforces desirable behaviors, helping dogs understand how to earn attention in a constructive manner. This strategy not only curbs misbehavior but also strengthens the bond between the dog and owner.
However, the training programs might require a significant time commitment from dog owners, which could be challenging for those with busy schedules. Additionally, the home-based training approach might not be suitable for dogs with severe behavioral issues that require a more controlled environment.
In conclusion, Destination Dog Training offers a unique and effective approach to dog training, focusing on real-world socialization and personalized attention. By helping dogs learn how to behave in various situations and environments, Destination Dog Training fosters better-behaved, happier dogs and more satisfied owners.
