The 4 Best Abortion Clinics In Phoenix

The 4 Best Abortion Clinics in Phoenix

How we picked

Qualifications

We chose clinics that are licensed and affiliated with trustworthy organizations like the National Abortion Federation (NAF). Physicians should also have the background and experience to perform abortion procedures.

Treatment

The clinic must have different methods for abortion such as medical and surgical procedures. These should be performed safely and legally to avoid complications that could be life-threatening.

Facilities

Treatments and other tests must be conducted in hygienic conditions with the appropriate tools and equipment. Hence, we chose those that properly maintain the cleanliness of their clinics up to current standards.

Accessibility

The practice needs to be reachable through different lines of communication, considering the barriers faced when terminating a pregnancy. They should also take extra steps in meeting their patients halfway.

Support

We also considered healthcare providers who openly discuss options and other need-to-know details in an unbiased and non-judgemental way. This assures patients and keeps them informed about their decisions.

Pros

  • Active members of NAF
  • Board-certified abortionists in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Team of highly-devoted healthcare providers
  • Cost of the abortion is all-inclusive of ultrasound, lab work, etc.
  • Offers emergency contraception and free pregnancy tests

Cons

  • Long waiting times
  • Appointment delays are common
  • Closed every Monday

Family Planning Associates Medical Group is founded by Dr. Paul Isaacson and Dr. Eleanor Stanley with the mission to provide care and support for women’s health. This is done through safe termination of pregnancy and family planning, among others.

Both physicians have years of practice in abortion services, dating back to the early 90s. It’s also worth highlighting that they’re board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).

Furthermore, Isaacson received his training from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School, which is impressive. Stanley, on the other hand, is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOG).

To further increase our confidence, their clinic is equipped with advanced tools and technology. They’re also part of the Abortion Care Network and NAF, which we think indicates that they have your best interests in mind.

The drawback is that the place tends to be packed with visitors, which results in appointment delays that could go on for hours. Some have reported waiting four hours before coming in for a consultation, which could wear your patience thin.

On the flip side, we heard that the staff are apologetic and are working on improving their system. Some patients are more understanding than others and find that it’s well worth the wait because of the warm and outstanding service.

Still, it’s apparent that the founding doctors’ passion for making abortion accessible is carried over to their colleagues.

While they deal with a number of visitors and inquiries at a time, they don’t balk under pressure and strive to give the best service from what we’ve seen. Keep in mind that they’re closed on Mondays.

Pros

  • Financial assistance is available through partner organizations
  • Offers a variety of contraceptives
  • Nationally accredited by the NAF and the Abortion Care Network
  • Kind and genuine staff
  • Over 20 years in practice

Cons

  • Only accepts a limited number of patients at a time
  • Long lines for initial visits
  • Charges $100 for missed appointments

Camelback Family Planning opened its doors in 1999 to serve and educate women on their choices. These include unwanted pregnancies, fetal abnormalities, and even managing miscarriages.

Dr. Gabrielle Goodrick, the clinic’s owner and lead physician, has over 20 years of experience behind her and is a trailblazer when it comes to abortion care. She actively participates in clinical research, seeking ways to advance the field.

We admire her zeal in providing the best care for women, even across borders. She’s known for voluntarily training other physicians across the globe, which we think is altruistic.

Her practice is comprised of four other physicians who are all licensed, trained, and board-certified to perform the procedures. We heard they’re a sweet bunch who genuinely have their patient’s best interests at heart.

However, we heard it’s quite difficult to secure an appointment because of the volume of women that visit each day. They also operate on a first-come, first-served basis, limiting the number of appointments.

Because of this, some have resorted to waiting in line as early as 6 am, which is inconvenient. Others sought their business elsewhere after missing the cut-off.

Fortunately, the practice has taken steps by hiring more staff, which for us shows their dedication to providing excellent care all around. The process after consultation also gets easier, since they follow a strict schedule.

Ultimately, they’re a clinic that will hold your hand throughout the whole ordeal, taking the stress and anxiety that accompanies the decision of ending a pregnancy. Just make sure not to miss an appointment, since they charge for no-shows.

  • Thorough with providing information and services

Cons

  • Only one attending abortionist
  • Long waiting times for setting an appointment
  • Open for only three days a week
  • Rates are higher compared to other clinics

Desert Star Family Planning was established by DeShawn Taylor not long ago in 2013. She’s a multi-hyphenate who is board-certified in gynecology, an advocate of reproductive justice, and a gender-affirming care provider among other things.

Moreover, she’s the only known Black woman who is also the sole physician of her own abortion clinic in the country. She’s also a leader in providing accessible birth control and abortion services, as well as resources on women’s health to the local community.

If these don’t stop you in your tracks, we’re happy to report that she also runs her own non-profit for training other aspiring physicians in abortion care. We’re fans of a practice that strongly advocates for reproductive health, especially for those in need.

We’ve heard a lot of shining reviews about the clinic, which is the most out of all the others. It seems they lay the groundwork prior to surgery, which takes the burden off their patients.

Understanding that terminating a pregnancy is a difficult decision, they take the time in explaining all the options and answering questions. Patients also appreciate their attentiveness, which is an indispensable trait in their line of work.

Heads up though, because scheduling the actual surgery could take weeks after the initial consultation. Admittedly on their part, they’re currently short-staffed with only Taylor performing the procedure.

Consequently, they’re only open thrice a week, with Friday being reserved for appointments only. Still, patients who moved out of state travel far to pay them a visit, which speaks volumes about the quality of their services.

For these reasons, the cost of their abortion services is more expensive than their counterparts. If you don’t mind the long wait and higher rates, you’re in for one of the best experiences in abortion care in the state.

Pros

  • 30 years of experience in the field
  • Licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services
  • Empathic and helpful staff
  • Offers free pregnancy tests and routine gynecology

Cons

  • Not a part of the NAF
  • Limited to a sole practitioner to perform abortions
  • Wait times last for hours

For over two decades, Acacia Women’s Center has been providing safe abortion services to hundreds of women across the valley. The private practice is led by Ronald Yunis, who is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

On top of that, since graduating from the Icahn School Of Medicine At Mount Sinai, he has been in the practice for 30 years. In the course of his career, he has strongly advocated for women’s health and reproductive rights.

Aside from abortion, the clinic offers full-service healthcare for women such as routine gynecology and birth control. We also appreciate the great effort to communicate and educate patients on their options, even on current policies involving abortion.

They’re also known for their compassionate – and bilingual  – staff who make the experience lighter according to their patients. We heard they’re responsive over the phone and quick on their feet to set an appointment.

Some patients who are at the cusp of 14 weeks of pregnancy have reported immediate care from their clinic, which is great. However, wait times could be as long as a couple of hours, even on repeated visits.

The abortion fee is also priced at a flat rate of $1000, which is inclusive of an ultrasound, medication, IV sedation, and follow-up care. Still, it’s the most expensive one we’ve seen yet so make sure to be financially prepared.

It’s also understandable since insurance doesn’t cover abortion-related services in the state, but we wish they offered financing plans for those who couldn’t afford to pay upfront.
