The 5 Best Bowling Alleys In Phoenix

The 5 Best Bowling Alleys in Phoenix

How we picked

Rates and Requirements

We browsed the rates to see if they’re worth what you’re getting in return, like group packages being inclusive of shoe rentals for instance.

Bowling Alley

The bowling equipment like lanes, shoes, scoring system, and pinsetters should be up-to-date to enhance the players’ experience. Additionally, they must also be well-kept and cleaned regularly.

Attendants

The helpfulness and demeanor of bowling alley operators greatly add to the bowling experience. Hence, we prefer those who willingly extend their assistance.

Amenities

Besides the bowling lanes, we favored establishments that feature other attractions to give you more options to choose from. More often than not, you won’t leave without grabbing a bite so we considered the food choices, too.

Bowlero Christown is a renovation of what was once the AMF Christown Lanes that was first built in the 1960s. Since its reopening in 2018, the bowling alley is now a modernized entertainment center and events placed rolled into one.

Upon visiting, we were greeted by steep, triangular canopies that point in three different directions. The interior is as eclectic, with neon backlit panels on every corner and plush lounge seating.

The bowling area takes center stage, with 48 lanes in total that could comfortably fit 6 people. 16 of these lanes are for VIPs and reserved for special events that you can book with them.

Speaking of events, their event menu consists of sizeable and mouthwatering shareables. Their XXL Pretzel and Behemoth Burger are crowd favorites from what we’ve heard.

Because they’re well-staffed, there’s always someone available to help. One of their customers who was hosting a party felt that they were treated well, despite there being other events that day.

However, there were also some reports of long waits and food coming out cold for laneside menu. We hope they improve the quality of the food and service to match the pricing, as much as their event menu.

Still, the place is open to all ages so you can bring the whole family along. Additionally, the lanes are built with retractable bumpers and ramps that are geared toward children and beginners, which we like.

They also have a variety of attractions including a state-of-the-art arcade, billiards, sports bar, and a pro shop where you can purchase bowling merchandise.

It seems you won’t run out of things to do, so it’s worth paying another visit. Keep in mind that age restrictions apply during after-hours and some weekends.

Pros

  • Go-to gathering place for families
  • Offers great drinks at the bar and lounge
  • Great deals on group packages
  • Affordable and adequate food options

Cons

  • Encounters with faulty bumpers
  • Some reports on nickel-and-diming
  • Some complaints on rude staff

Re-established in 2010, Let It Roll Bowl & Entertainment Center is a local, family- and community-oriented bowling alley. It was once under two different names and ownerships dating back to 1962 but has since evolved with the times.

However, the exterior seems to fall behind and could use some love. But as you enter, it’s as if you’re transported to a different place, which we think makes up for the lackluster facade.

The bowling alley features 32 lanes and seating similar to waiting room benches. However, lots of customers wished there was a table that came along with each lane that they can comfortably use.

Nevertheless, we like that they have automatic bumpers and bowling balls of different sizes, so there’s something for everyone. Keep in mind that the bumpers could only handle a certain level of impact, and therefore limited to children under 11 years old.

There are also some minor hiccups here and there with the bumpers, but the attendants are apparently ready to assist and would even manually raise them.

We’ve also heard some cases where the operator would shut the system off a few minutes shy of the time limit, which could throw off your game so to speak. We hope they could be more considerate, especially when the session is about to end.

On the other hand, we heard their cocktail lounge serves great drinks that range from draft beers to specialty liquor. Compared to the electric blue neon lights of the bowling lanes, the bar is illuminated with warm amber lighting, which we thought was fitting.

For those with kids in tow, the place also serves hand-tossed pizza and grilled food for a reasonable price over at their restaurant.

Pros

  • State-of-the-art bowling equipment
  • Features a variety of attractions like movie theater
  • Bowling packages are inclusive of shoes
  • Offers custom event packages, including non-profits
  • Clean facilities, including bathrooms

Cons

  • Regular rates are more expensive than others’
  • Some reports of reservations not being honored

Fat Cats was formed when two friends, Dave Rutter and Seans Collins, sought to create a multi-purpose entertainment space that everyone can get a kick out of. This featured a bowling alley, arcade, mini-golf arena, and a bar and grill.

With their unique experiences as a restaurant owner and bowling merchandise sales executive, they have expanded to nine locations all over Utah, Arizona, and Idaho. Their branch at Gilbert is the first of its kind, with the addition of a movie theater.

Since opening in 2015, it has proven to be a smash hit with the locals based on all accounts. Their bowling alley in particular has a cluster of 20 high-tech lanes and striking high-definition screens covering the whole opposite wall.

The seats resemble restaurant booths where players can enjoy their usual offers such as pizzas, burgers, and special drinks. We love that you can also modify the bumpers to pop up on kids’ turns through their automatic scorers.

All their packages are inclusive of shoe rentals, which makes it simpler for customers. We recommend the family special that costs as low as $55 for six people, inclusive of food.

On the downside, we heard from some customers that their reservations were given to other players upon arriving at the place, even when they were early. The management was reportedly unhelpful in offering alternatives, which could be frustrating.

For us, an establishment should honor prior arrangements. We hope they could improve on this, especially when it comes to planned events like birthday parties.

All things considered, you won’t run out of things to do in this place. We think they’re a top-tier choice for family gatherings and night outs.

Pros

  • Offers affordable rates and weekly promos
  • Clean and well-maintained facilities
  • Serves good food compared to others
  • Ideal venue for events like parties
  • Helpful and friendly staff

Cons

  • Manual bumpers
  • Long wait times in line, especially during weekends
  • Bartender is short and rude for some

AMF Peoria Lanes belongs to the largest and longest-standing network of bowling ball alleys in the country, Bowlero Corp. The latter may sound familiar, but that’s because they also own the bowling alley chain of the same name.

Like all their other branches, their location at Peoria also features an arcade, billiards tables, a pro shop for bowling equipment, a sports bar, and a lounge area. Of course, these are all anchored on their 32-lane bowling alley.

We love that it’s lined with spacious and comfortable booths and banquet seating. If you’re part of a larger group, each lane could fit at most 12 people.

The interior is also generally clean and straightforward but transforms at the flip of a switch that powers LED lighting, depending on the time of day. We heard it gets busier on the weekends, so prepare to wait in line for at least 30 minutes.

Our only gripe is that the bumpers need to be manually set up, but it appears that the attendants are eager to assist when it comes to it. They’re also quite accommodating with last-minute changes if you have made a reservation online, which is great.

However, we heard mixed opinions about their bartender. Some find them pleasant, but a handful of others have encountered rude and cold service from them.

Still, the food and drinks here are some of the best-tasting to come around bowling alleys as far as we’re concerned. Prepare to spend though, because prices run a little high from what we’ve seen.

To balance the scales, their bowling rates are reasonably priced. This makes them an ideal place to hold parties and small gatherings for us.

Pros

  • Extensive lineup of attractions and concessions
  • Bowling lanes are geared towards pros and beginners
  • Accessible for all ages and groups
  • Offers a variety of event packages

Cons

  • More expensive compared to others
  • Doesn’t offer unlimited access
  • Staff is unwilling to accommodate for some

Main Event was born out of the concept of an inclusive and all-in-one destination for all. Today, they have established almost 50 branches across 18 states, and even more coming up soon.

Their Avondale location stood out the most for us. The whole establishment is tied together with a modern take of a bowling alley, which features 26 lanes for beginners and pros alike.

Besides the automatic bumpers, they also have dragon ramps ready for the smaller kids to level the playing field. If you’re a professional bowler looking for a place to practice, their electronic system is designed to be as accurate as possible.

It seems you won’t run out of things to see. Another thing we love about them is that they have a lot of food to choose from.

For one, their food stalls cater to different palettes, from an in-house La Bella’s pizza to a full-service bar that serves all kinds of food and alcoholic drinks for the adults. You also have the option to either eat at the bowling alley booths or the banquet area.

On the other hand, they have a fun mix of different games and obstacle courses, the most we’ve seen out of all the other contenders. For us, one visit isn’t going to fit all of them in your itinerary.

However, the staff seems to drop the ball on some occasions. We heard customers complain about argumentative and unhelpful staff with minor corrections on food orders for instance.

We’ve also heard some who had to wait too long to be seated or provided with equipment such as shoes and bowling balls. We wish they would improve in this area since a lot of the business depends on customer service.
