A1 Van Rental is a local family-owned and -operated business that’s been around since 1982. They have one of the largest van rental fleets in the Southwest US, so you’re almost always assured of a van available.

What we like about them is that they put a lot of thought and care into this business. We say this because they go the extra mile for their renters – whether that means extra luggage room, one-way rentals, and even a wheelchair-accessible van on deck.

We’re really impressed with their mobility vans, because you won’t find a lot of similar businesses offering this.

We’d also like to highlight that they offer tons of flexibility for their customers. Pets are allowed, they have a generous mileage policy at 200 miles per day, and they can even take seats out if you need more room.

Plus, they can arrange delivery or van pickups, and they drop offs to another city despite having just one office location. Make sure to inform them at least a month in advance, though.

However, note that all these perks come at a steep price. They have relatively expensive rental fees and will charge full-day rates, even if you only used up half a day’s worth of time.

We’ve also heard that a few of their vans need better upkeep. Apparently, some have worn out seats and stains.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is one of the more popular options when it comes to vehicle rentals. For van rentals, specifically, they have the standard 7,8, 12 and 15 passenger vans, along with compact and cargo vans.

They boast of their Complete Clean Pledge by being a member of the Clorox™ Safer Today Alliance™. This ensures that every vehicle is cleaned and sanitized prior to every use.

They’re best known for being relatively affordable. This is because they usually offer a ton of deals on their website, and they have a points-earning system called Enterprise Plus.

Apart from those, we’ve also heard that they don’t upsell. They give you exactly what you ask for and charge only what was quoted.

This is a huge green flag in our book, as we know that overcharging and hidden fees are common in the rental industry.

While they have a large fleet of vans available, being guaranteed one seems to be an issue. It seems that there have been several instances when they’d overbook, leaving a few of their customers high and dry.

We understand how disappointing this could be and how big of an inconvenience it is. We do hope they work on having a better booking system to avoid this issue altogether.

Adobe Transportation is another locally-owned and -operated company. Since 2002, they have been providing full-service van rentals to customers all over the valley.

The good thing about being an independent agency is that they can offer more adaptability and discounts. This means that the rental process is customizable to your specific needs, and rates aren’t entirely fixed.

We’ve also heard good things about their vans. It seems that they’re mostly well-maintained, clean, and comfortable.

Although, we do wish they’d offer 7- and 8-seater options, as they’re limited to 12- and 15-seater vans.

One of their main edges is that they have easy access to Mexico. Their insurance allows them to travel throughout the country without being stopped at the borders.

We think this is extremely convenient in the sense that it’ll save you a lot of time doing paperwork. It’s one less thing you’d need to worry about.

If you’re not really keen on driving, you can also avail of their shuttle services. However, the coverage area is quite limited to just Southern Arizona of Mexico.

The same coverage actually applies to self-driving services. So if you plan on road tripping to a further state, then they may not be the best option for you.

Boho Camper Vans puts convenience and functionality into travel. They’re relatively new in the van rental industry, having just started in 2018, but they’ve already successfully made a name for themselves.

In just a few short years, they’ve become a go-to for luxury van rentals. They’ve also been widely-recognized in several publications and shows – ABC’s Shark Tank and on The Joe Rogan Experience, to name a few.

While vans offer a lot of space, camper vans offer elevated comfort. Theirs come equipped with full-sized beds, induction stoves, heated outdoor showers, power outlets, and more.

Most of their campers are good for 1-2 people. Their most spacious van can accommodate up to 4. 

Expect to pay a hefty sum when renting out one of their vans. Rates usually start at $200 with a minimum of 3 days to rent.

Considering all their amenities and the quality of the van build, we do think the fees are quite reasonable.

The major issue here is flexibility and convenience. They also only have 1 pickup and dropoff location, and as you might expect, they don’t allow one-way rentals.

They also suggest booking at least 2 days before the trip. But we’ve heard that it’s best to book your van as far ahead as 4 weeks in advance, as they usually run out of units quickly.

Still, we think luxurious road trips are something that every avid traveler should experience. We think they’d be a solid choice in this regard.

Alamo Rent-A-Car is another well-known affordable and accessible vehicle rental company. You’ll find them conveniently located within Phoenix’s airport premises.

Mainly, we like how low their rental rates are. If you book early, you get additional discounts and they also often have last minute special deals on their website.

We find their accelerated check-in feature quite convenient, too. Think of it as online airport check-in; you get to skip the lines and proceed right to your gate, but in their case, the van.

As for their van selection, it’s decent and they offer industry-standard ones. For a more luxe experience, we do suggest their limo van which is a Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van or something similar.

They’ve also signed up to be a member of the Clorox® Safer Today Alliance™ and initiated their Complete Clean Pledge®. So, you get to worry less about cleanliness and sanitation.

What we’d like them to work on, though, is being more transparent about their fees. Despite the low rental rates, it appears that there are a few hidden charges that spike up the bill by a bit.

Also, we’ve heard that a few of their vans need better maintenance. Some tires needed to be more inflated, others were just old and had peeling interiors.
