Brooklyn Bedding, owned by John and Rob Merwin, is a homegrown supplier of mattresses with humble beginnings.

From hauling mattresses out of an old truck around Phoenix, they are currently delivering their line of products across the country.

What gives them an edge over other businesses is that they built their own factory, where they design and craft custom mattresses.

Having a factory eliminates the middleman and gives them complete control over the product and processes, not to mention their competitive pricing. With this, it’s safe to expect personalized mattresses of the highest quality at fair prices.

As for the shopping experience, we’ve heard customers speak highly about the store’s customer service. Salesperson Shaun is particularly memorable and is described as helpful without being pushy.

They also offer an range of discounts like military, medical provider, and educator discounts, which we find generous. What also pulled at our heartstrings is that they support a good cause for children in foster care.

Another thing we like is that they offer a 10-year warranty on all their mattresses and other beddings, plus a 120-night comfort trial.

However, a few customers apaprently encountered defective products upon delivery. We hope they can improve on the quality control of their products before dispatch.

Some customers also shared their frustrations with scheduling delays. We appreciate that their customer support responds immediately with an offer to resolve the situation.

Overall, we admire Brooklyn Bedding for being a homegrown businesses that also gives back to its community.

Pros

  • Good deals on branded products
  • Free removal of old and used mattresses
  • Same-day delivery
  • Products include a warranty

Cons

  • Slight delays on deliveries
  • May be difficult to go through their display of mattresses
  • Nothing new to offer in terms of the latest trends

Arizona Mattress Overstock is a family-owned and -operated business that used to sell factory overstocks, discontinued models, and close-outs at reduced prices.

They now offer the largest selection of branded mattresses compared to other discount shops in Phoenix. The markdown on retail prices goes as deep as 50 to 70%, which is great for those looking to score a sweet deal.

It’s worth noting that these beds are unused, so you don’t have to worry about finding refurbished or thrift models here.

We found that their stores are pretty straightforward, which isn’t necessarily bad – but is something to consider for those who like to browse showrooms. These kinds of customers may find it inconvenient to go through stacks of mattresses.

Generally, though, customers have only good things to say about their customer service. We heard their sales associates are accommodating, personable, and knowledgeable about their products.

They also patiently answer questions and help you decide on your payment terms without being overbearing. When it comes to delivery, the service crew is prompt and efficient in setting up the mattress for you.

Just keep in mind that the tags on the products are the retail sticker prices they came with and may not reflect the actual selling price. We advise that you check with the salesperson as the prices should be lower.

Pros

  • Bargain deals on quality brands
  • Doesn’t upsell you on their products
  • Helpful and efficient staff
  • Rated A+ by the BBB

Cons

  • Doesn’t accept or refund returns
  • Increased risk of buying defective products
  • Limited warranty

As its name suggests, the Sleep Outfitters Outlet is home to discount mattresses and other beddings. They particularly sell Sealy and Stearns & Foster products, which are two of the top mattress brands in the country.

These come in the usual overstocks and close-outs but also include floor samples and comfort returns, which are used and refurbished stocks.

From what we’ve heard, their sales associates are nothing short of professional. You’ll find that they don’t rush sales and take the time to find the best option that fits your criteria.

They also offer top-quality mattresses for up to 60% less than the original price, which is a great deal.

Each mattress also comes with a comfort guarantee of four months. In the same time frame, if you see the same product in the market for less than the price you bought, they’ll refund 25% of the difference on top of the actual difference.

Because they’re an outlet store, stocks vary across different branches and are replenished regularly with new models. The only catch is that you won’t find more of the same model if you’re planning to exchange.

Buying used mattresses also comes with risks. Some customers find their mattresses in a bad state within a few tries.

We advise you to check with the salesperson on the warranty and other relevant policies. Oftentimes, floor models are no longer covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

4. Mattress Firm

Pros

  • Offers up to 72 months of financing plans at zero-interest
  • Special discounts available
  • Has a tracking system for orders
  • Holds annual initiatives for foster kids

Cons

  • Processing refunds take a long time
  • Reports on delayed shipments

You’ve probably heard of Mattress Firm, the largest and most popular mattress retailer in the country.

Over the three decades since they opened, they’ve established a staggering number of 2,400 locations across 49 states. You can find seven of their branches around Phoenix.

The retail chain is a one-stop shop for all your bedroom needs such as bedding, accessories, and other furniture — which is convenient. Owing to their name, they’re most known for their generous catalog of mattresses.

Because buying a new bed is a big ticket purchase, they offer special financing of up to 72 months with zero interest. We think this is a good deal, especially for those who don’t want the pressure of paying upfront.

For in-store purchases, customers generally find the sales staff to be accommodating and knowledgeable about their products. They also don’t pressure you into a sale but help tremendously in finding you the right fit.

Operating a large-scale business comes with its risks. One that affects customers, in particular, involves management lapses over logistics, delivery schedules, and other customer care services.

We’ve heard of cases where customers had to do several follow-ups on refunds, as well as delivery delays. Some also find customer care unresponsive over phone calls, which can be frustrating.

Despite all that, we think their wide range of products offers customers a lot to choose from, plus you can count on them to have the latest bedding technologies in the market on hand.

  • Same day delivery
  • Wide selection of mattresses and other household items

Cons

  • Reports on defective items after a few uses
  • Increased risk of buying defective products

American Freight Furniture, Mattress, Appliance is a Sears Outlet store that is known for its affordable brand name products. It has around 300 branches nationwide.

They’re particularly known to showcase their products in warehouses, which we think has worked in their favor. Customers find this approach less intimidating, and therefore more approachable, as compared to looking around showrooms.

We think the manager, David, is a gentleman and a lot of customers seem to think so too. He’s very hands-on and is equally keen on resolving customer concerns over the phone.

The same could also be said with the sales associates as they’re reportedly fast, efficient, and do their best to work within your budget.

According to several customers we surveyed, purchasing their products is a breeze and they’re especially helpful with the financing.

It seems that the company has a lot to offer in terms of saving you money through personalized payment plans.

They also have a special offer of a $0 to $50 downpayment to take home your purchase. You won’t be obliged to settle the payment right away until after 60 days.

They sell floor models and used items, so this is something to consider if you’re looking for a quality steal.

Although, on several occasions, customers found their purchases defective in a short time. It’s good that customer support is apologetic in these cases and helps in exercising the warranty claim and other applicable policies.

All things considered, they’re a solid choice, especially for those who are on a budget and prefer flexible payment plans. If you’re looking for a great selection at reduced prices, we think it’s worth paying them a visit.
