The 5 Best Psychiatrists in Phoenix

The 6 Best Psychiatrists in Phoenix

How We Chose the Best Psychiatrists and Clinics in Phoenix

Credentials

As with any medical concern, it’s important to consider the qualifications and credentials of a psychiatrist for you to get the best treatment possible.

Demeanor

It’s not easy to open up when it comes to your mental health, so we took a look at the doctors’ overall demeanor.

Insurance Claims

For practicality reasons, we also took into account clinics that are in contract with many providers; or the ones that are helpful when it comes to insurance claims.

Ease of Communication

We considered doctors and clinics who are responsive and able to keep open lines of communication with their patients.

Pros

  • Tele-psychiatry is maximized
  • Automated prescription systems

Cons

  • Some reports of customer service reps needing better training
  • Some negative reviews regarding scheduling conflicts

One of the largest private psychiatric practices in Arizona is Redemption Psychiatry. They are committed to providing quality mental health treatments to children, adolescents, and adults.

An important thing to know about them is that they believe in utilizing technology in their routines. This means maximizing virtual consultations, direct sending of prescriptions to the pharmacy, automated text messages, and even online patient education.

This allows them to manage their time more efficiently with clients, especially those that live busy lives. But don’t worry – if you’re more comfortable with in-person appointments, they allow that, too.

Their founder, Dr. Jason Friday, is a board-certified psychiatrist and a board-certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. He specializes in providing treatments for families and children with emotional and behavioral problems.

We found that his patients speak very highly of him. It seems that he is passionate about helping them get the best course of treatment and has a kind demeanor.

His patients also often say that he does not overprescribe and recommends only medications that are absolutely needed. He has our respect for that.

We find it helpful, too, that the clinic provides superbills and makes it easy for patients to submit insurance claims for reimbursement (in case your insurance is non-contracted with them).

Pros

  • Collaborative, individualized treatment plans

Cons

  • Not as helpful in filing insurance claims
  • Closed on weekends

Uptown Psychiatry is a boutique-style psychiatric clinic. They pride themselves in offering an alternative to the generic insurance-driven practice of psychiatry.

It goes without saying that treatments are personal; but according to them, their approach is much more modern, comprehensive, and individualized for each patient.

This means that they will thoroughly explain what your treatment options are and what to expect. After collaborating with you, they will proceed to create a treatment plan that is tailor-fit not just for your needs, but for your satisfaction as well.

Brooke Morrow, their owner and Physician Assistant, is very hands-on when it comes to patient care. Since 2005, she has been working with children, adolescents, and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

She is also well-trained in the assessment and management of mental health disorders; and has extensive experience treating mood disorders, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and ADHD.

Probably the quality that patients love most about her is her calm demeanor that lets them feel an immediate sense of ease. It can be quite intimidating to meet with a psychiatrist, so we think that it’s great how comfortable patients are with her.

We find that this aligns with their collaborative approach – since patients feel at ease, they become more confident and honest with their symptoms and feelings. In turn, this allows for a more comprehensive and helpful diagnosis.

Pros

  • Relatively long clinic hours

Cons

  • Takes quite a bit of time to get back to inquiries

Serenity Mental Health Centers started with one location in 2017, but has now grown to 10 clinics across Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada – an amazing feat in such a short time.

They employ a team of expert psychiatrists who stay knowledgeable on the latest updates in medical research. They do this so they can provide up-to-date and effective medications for their patients.

Dr. Aaron Clay is one of the most sought-after psychiatrists in their clinic. He is a licensed Doctor of Osteopathy with board certification in Adult Psychiatry.

He specializes in psychiatric treatments for multiple therapeutic settings including mental health outpatient, inpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization programs.

He’s adept at treating adults, particularly those with complex mental health conditions such as clinical depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and more.

We hear that he is warm, welcoming, and always inviting. His previous patients often say that they feel comfortable around him because he is sincere in providing the best care possible.

More than him, patients also find the clinical staff accommodating and kind. It seems that they provide a safe space where patients feel that their mental health is truly the priority.

In our opinion, that’s one of the best kinds of feedback that a psychiatric clinic can get. We give props to their entire team for that.

Pros

  • Modern facilities and equipment
  • Commitment-free assessment

Cons

  • Treatments are on the pricier side
  • Closed on weekends

Mental Health Center of America is known for their Biopsychosocial Method of treating patients. What this means is that they take a multifaceted approach by addressing your biological, psychological, and social complexities.

This allows them to create a complete and strategic treatment plan based on your specific situation.

Their multidisciplinary team of medical professionals are expert providers in treating several emotional and mental conditions. We hear that they’re quite a respectful and friendly bunch, too.

Compassion and collaboration are high on their priorities, which we think is great in helping patients feel comfortable, especially new ones.

Dr. Mona Amini is no exception. Her patients hold her in high regard for her expertise and welcoming demeanor.

She has a proven track record in mental health administration, clinical psychiatric care, and advising. She also believes that mental health should be given early intervention to help patients better destigmatize mental healthcare.

Another thing we really love about the clinic is how modern and first-rate their facilities are. They practice integrated holistic care, and it seems that patients find this truly helpful.

The only downside is their services can be a bit expensive, but they do participate in a wide variety of health plans to help alleviate their patients’ financial concerns.

Pros

  • Offers treatment for a wide list of mental disorders

Cons

  • More expensive treatments and payment are due when services are rendered
  • Closed on weekends

Shier Private Practice is composed of a specialized team of psychiatrists and psychologists who believe in evidence-based care for both children and adults.

They offer personalized treatment plans for common conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction, and more.

It appears that their patients like them for their straightforward approach; not in an intimidating way, but in their ability to prescribe and explain individualized treatments that patients are able to easily comprehend.

We hear that they recognize every patient’s bravery to seek treatment, and make them feel supported in a non-judgmental, safe environment.

Such is the case for Dr. Jack Shier, who is a double board-certified physician in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. He is also experienced in medical and psychiatric assessments, psychopharmacology, and evidenced-based treatments for mental health disorders.

It seems that his patients feel at ease with him because he takes his time to really listen to them and ask some in-depth, clarifying questions.

Apparently, he’s very respectful in answering concerns, as well as in giving detailed explanations of the course of treatment.

It’s important that patients feel heard and understood. This is why we think it’s great that his patients commend him for this.

However, private practices tend to be more expensive because their doctors are not contracted with insurance companies. But they are helpful in providing invoices for insurance reimbursements, so at least there’s that.
