SmartStop Self-storage is among the more popular options for self-storage. They have grown to over 150 locations across the US and Canada, which we think speaks volumes about their customer satisfaction rate.

Their Phoenix branch comes highly-recommended as they’re known to be one of the safest and easiest people to work with.

They have surveillance cameras all over the perimeter and round-the-clock security guards. We also appreciate that there are units you can avail with individual door alarms.

Their staff members are also regarded to be professional and helpful. In fact, they were named among the top self-storage companies for customer service by Newsweek and Statista.

What we love about them is the variety of storage options you can avail. They have several sizes of units to choose from, and they also have indoor or outdoor options.

If you need short term storage, they’d be a great choice as they don’t force long-term contracts on you. 

They also offer climate-controlled units, which is a standard among self-storage services. But we find that they offer these for a lot cheaper than others.

Still, they’re not the most affordable choice out there. We’ve heard that there are hidden fees that significantly increase your rent total.

Also, an issue that some customers have with them is that they raise their prices without prior notice. Maybe it’s a matter of sending a memo, but we do hope they address this soon.

Extra Space Storage is one of the largest operators of self-storage facilities nationwide. They’ve been around since 1977 and have continued to serve hundreds of thousands of customers.

What we love about their Phoenix location, in particular, is the lovely facade and clean environment. It’s obvious that they maintain their facilities well.

The hallways are wide and there are multiple entrances which makes moving easier. Each one is also equipped with keypad access as an added security feature.

However, the parking area could use a little space improvement as there have been instances when customers had trouble fitting U-hauls. 

They offer several options for indoor and outdoor storage units in a variety of sizes. Pro tip: their online prices are much cheaper than if you avail units on-site.

Note that their access hours are only from 6AM to 10PM, but if you need to get your stuff beyond that, their resident manager can make the arrangements.

It seems that their employees are friendly and attentive. Customers appreciate that they don’t oversell and suggest ample-priced units for their needs.

Their rates are relatively more expensive and it appears that they regularly raise prices. It’s best to clarify your contract with them and make sure you’re not being overcharged.

Life Storage has been a trusted self-storage company for over 30 years now. They have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, which is a testament to the quality of service they provide.

With them, it’s super easy to get a storage unit. They offer contact-free storage rentals where you can simply avail of a unit online and head straight to your facility with your access code.

This eliminates unnecessary red tape and long waiting times in their office. We think this is a smart move on their part and is helpful for customers who are usually in a rush.

As an added security feature, all customers get their personalized access codes to every building. And, they install high-definition security cameras all around the facility.

Another thing we appreciate is that they won’t charge you for coming, accessing, and moving your belongings out. We know that there are some storage companies that charge minimal fees for these.

You also don’t need to make an appointment during their access hours. Again, this is convenient for those who urgently need to get into their units.

We think it’s for these reasons that their rates are relatively more expensive. You’re paying for convenience, after all.

Unfortunately, we have heard of instances when the access code doesn’t work for some customers. Apparently, it’s an IT issue on their end so we hope they work out the kinks in their system.

StorQuest Self-storage is fairly new to the area. Even though they’re closed on Sundays and Mondays, their state-of-the-art facility is accessible to customers 24/7.

They have a Virtual Rental Center where you can simply set up an account and choose a storage unit. We think it’s super convenient as it saves a lot of people valuable time.

Since they have a new building, everything is well-lit, clean, and modern. They’ve also equipped it with advanced digital surveillance for security reasons.

They do offer a good selection of storage unit types, but the sizes are limited to small, medium, large, and extra large. Some customers need in-between sizes, so we hope they’d consider adding more options in this regard.

We like that they have drive-up access to outdoor storage units. And, the parking space and driveways are wide enough to comfortably fit larger trucks and U-hauls.

Another thing we like is how they have free moving carts and trolleys available for customers. We just think it’s extremely thoughtful of them, as other similar storage facilities charge fees for these.

They also offer month-to-month contracts, but we’ve heard of some customer complaints that it’s because they tend to raise rent prices often.

Storage King USA has also modernized their business for the convenience of their customers.

Apart from their modern and clean storage facilities, their rental process can also be done in a contact-free manner. 

They’ve made it easy to shop for a unit online, receive security credentials, and drop by the unit assigned. 

We like that they have a good variety of storage units and sizes available. Drive-up access is also given for those with outdoor units.

We also love how affordable their storage units are. We think they’re fairly priced, considering how well-maintained and secure the place is.

However, access hours are only from 6AM to 9PM daily. We hope they offer extended hours for those who need to get into their units beyond those times.

The storage facilities are all well-lit and protected by CCTV cameras, fully-fenced perimeters, and electronically-accessed gates. Some units also feature motion-sensing technology and video access which allows you to monitor it 24/7.

Sadly, we’ve heard of some customer complaints that the staff isn’t as helpful as one would like. It seems that one needs to make multiple calls and follow ups for queries and concerns.

Overall, though, we still think they’re a great choice if you need a convenient, safe, and affordable storage unit.
