Top 5 Tutoring Services in Phoenix

How We Chose the Best Tutoring Services in Phoenix

Credentials

We made sure to look into the qualifications of these tutors. These included their years of experience and licenses or certifications.

Scope of Subjects

We also took into account the scope of subjects available for tutoring. We think it would be beneficial for students to have one tutor for a lot of subjects, as opposed to having many different ones.

Availability

Naturally, we wanted to consider those that were available to teach for most schedules.

Customer Service

It was also vital for us to consider those with good reputation in customer service. This applies not just to the tutor themselves, but to the entire service staff.

Pros

  • Wide scope of subjects taught
  • Provides individualized support with maximum flexibility
  • Available for in-home, online, or on-site tutoring sessions

Cons

  • Relatively more expensive rates
  • Could work on being more transparent about their tutor profiles

When it comes to a holistic tutoring approach, Sophos Speech & Academic Support is among the best.

What we love about them is how they provide individualized support with maximum flexibility for students.

Simply put, they don’t have a predetermined program. Each session is customized according to the needs and goals of every student that applies to them.

Whether that means helping them with homework, test prep, or even determining the best study skills, they guide students as they see fit. What’s more is that they maintain a flexible schedule, just let them know when you’re available.

They also understand that each student has different learning preferences. This is why they cater to in-home or online tutoring sessions.

But if you’d prefer a real classroom, they have a state-of-the-art learning center that’s equipped with all the latest educational materials and technology.

The only downside is, their services are relatively more expensive. Their standard rates start at $55 per hour and are much higher for in-home services.

And while we’ll take their word for having qualified professionals teach, we wish they were more transparent as to their credentials. We think that even short profiles on their website would greatly help boost potential clients’ confidence in their services.

Pros

  • Also provides guidance on which courses are best to take
  • Offers tutors for foreign language studies
  • 100% money-back guarantee
  • Available to answer queries 24/7

Cons

  • Premium pricing that’s significantly higher than most
  • Limited flexibility when it comes to payments

Their name couldn’t be any clearer – Going Ivy is a full-service tutoring and consulting group geared towards helping students get into the top colleges.

Since 2009, they have helped thousands of students bring out their full academic potential.

What they do is get to know students personally – this includes identifying one’s strengths and areas of improvement. Then, they will strategize a comprehensive plan that will help you stand out to admissions officers.

Apart from personalized tutoring, they also guide students to the right high school courses that will best showcase their abilities. For some, it’s a years-long process; and they will meet with you regularly to keep track of your progress.

We like that aside from the usual math, science, and English subjects, they also have foreign language tutors for Spanish, French, German, and more.

Another thing we appreciate is their 100% money-back guarantee. This means that if you’re not completely satisfied with the first two tutors they provide, they will refund your payment.

Also, they work beyond the typical office hours and make themselves available at any time of the day for students and parents alike.

As can be expected, you will pay a premium for their services. And they don’t offer much flexibility when it comes to it.

Pros

  • Over 15 years in the industry
  • Has helped over 300,000 students
  • Great range of subjects offered
  • Free initial consultation
  • Rigorous tutor screening
  • Provides professional development training for tutors

Cons

  • Too many tutors can be overwhelming for some students
  • No on-site classroom tutoring available

Tutor Doctor is a locally-owned and -operated company that has been around for over 15 years.

Impressively enough, they have a wide network of 28,000 tutors in more than 15 countries. And, they have helped over 300,000 students throughout their years in the business.

There’s nothing quite unique about the way they do things. Like most, they begin by assessing each student (we do appreciate the free consultation, though).

Then, they will find you a match with a local tutor. This tutor will then design a custom program for you and will provide all the necessary academic support.

We find that their edge is in the way that they rigorously screen every tutor they hire. They also provide continuous professional development support to benefit both them and the student.

As for the subjects they teach, it’s an extensive list that also includes several foreign languages, which is impressive. They also cater to students from elementary and middle school up to adults.

While it may not be a concern to some, we find that they have far too many tutors. Establishing a student-teacher relationship is important, and it’s possible for a child to get overwhelmed with too many different tutors.

Overall, though, we do think they’re a good choice should you need their services.

Pros

  • Offers affordable tutoring services
  • Employs licensed and certified tutors
  • Proven success with their teaching techniques and methodologies

Cons

  • Few subjects offered
  • Could work on more individualized teaching methods for some students
  • Only available for online tutoring sessions

If you’re in need of just the basic tutoring services, we think you’re in good hands with Positive Tutors.

They mostly just offer tutoring for math and English classes for elementary and middle school kids. For kids, teens, and adults, English as a Second Language is offered.

Even though their scope of services isn’t as extensive as others, we do like that they guarantee quality of learning by hiring certified and licensed tutors.

What’s more is that their services are relatively cheaper. They offer 25- and 50-minute classes that start at $6.99 per class and $99.99 monthly plans.

It’s good that they have a solid foundation when it comes to their courses and materials. And, they do have success stories to back up their work.

But while we appreciate that they formulated their own methodologies and teaching techniques, we still think that some students need more personalized approaches.

Students learn at different paces and ways, so we hope that they offer more individualized sessions for those who need it.

Another thing we’d like to point out is that they only offer online tutoring sessions. No in-home or on-site classes are available.

Still, we think they’re a reliable and affordable tutoring service if you only need a little bit of help in certain subjects.

Pros

  • Has been in business for over 20 years
  • Guarantees a “perfect match” for student-tutor assignments
  • Good scope of subjects taught

Cons

  • On-site classroom not available
  • Could be more transparent on the credentials of their tutors

Club Z! Tutoring has been around for over 20 years. Since then, they have gained over 400 franchise locations nationwide – including their Phoenix branch.

Despite being a wide network, we appreciate that they thoroughly screen every tutor they hire based on credentials. Still, we wish they were transparent on this matter, especially since they have a lot of tutors.

They also guarantee a “perfect match” every time from their proprietary Z! Tutor Match process.

The match is based on academic strengths, availability, personality, and teaching style. We think it’s great that they incorporated personality here, as it’s often a big factor in the comfort of a student.

If you’re uncomfortable with the match, they’ll find you another tutor and give you the first session for free.

And because every tutor session is one-on-one, they customize the lessons and methods to each student.

We also like that they offer a good scope of subjects. More than that, they offer study skills help where they teach active reading and organization for maximum productivity.

As for the classes, it can be done in-home or via online sessions. Their rates are quite affordable, too.

From what we’ve heard of their Phoenix location, the tutors certainly display expertise and knowledge. Apparently, they’re all very professional and encouraging.
